Official Zon Club Part 2

I use Zon Nickels (.090-.016, sometimes .095-0.020) on my TJ6, and TI Jazz Rounds (.118-.043) on my custom 5. I can't even remember what's on my 4 string. I have occasionally used Zon stainless on my 6, which are great, but I like the nickels better. I also occasionally use Zon Nickels on my 5 string, but for whatever reason I prefer the Jazz Rounds on that bass.

I don't really like anything else but those strings on my Zons, though. I don't know why, but I've hated pretty much everything else.

I`ve tried so far in my Sonus 5:

• 
  Zon SS: great tone, punchy and articulated. Great for live, a bit thin for recording.

• 
  Zon Nickels: feel softer at touch, sound great, not so aggressive. Great for recording but prefer SS for live situations

• 
  Elixir Nanoweb: didn`t like them on this bass, sounded dull and without good definition. Love them in my Peavey Cirrus though.

Always 0.45-1.30

2011 VB4 fretless Barts. This noise appears with volume hardly up but High's cranked. Is this normal?

If you can't hear it please normalize - I left it "at level" so you can see what it sounds like normally on a track.

This happens to be thru an Apogee One on a Mac.

Did you say highs cranked, as in you maxed out the treble control on the on-board eq? If so, probably any active bass would be noisy set that way.

Thanks Vic. Yes, that's what I meant. Even with the highs set to center detent if you turn up the volume you can hear it (more from the neck pickup) - just want to make sure I'm not alone in this. Thanks again.

I'd like to hear what STRINGS other Zon owners are using? (brand, type, gauge).

Marrying the right string with the right bass can be a struggle, but it can also produce pure bliss when finally achieved. I'm just curious as to what others have discovered with the phenol necks and their string choice.

I've got a Sonus Custom 4 that is a bit scooped sounding for my rock-cover gig. My two current favorite strings are Sadowsky Blue Label nickel and TI SuperAlloy's. The Blue's are a bit tighter feeling and seem to have better presence on the D and G strings. The TI's are a bit tamer (less hi-mid?) but I do actually like their lighter feel better.

I've tried a bunch of DR strings, but have always found that they don't fill the mid hole that my bass has.

I really like the ZON Nickels or the Sadowsky Steels. I've got the steels on my Vinny and Nickels on the TJ. Very different, yet nice feels. The Vinny is so freaking punchy now.
