Yesterday I received my TJs. They are spectacular in every way. The fit and finish are top notch and the basses were setup for effortless playing.

I played them for about 5 hours at rehearsal last night and was smiling the whole time at how great they sounded and how nicely they felt.

Joe put these massive pickups in my TJ6 that allow me to switch each pickup between single and dual coil ( actually separate pickups in the shell. The result is a bass capable of very musical tonal shifts without even engaging the eq. The sound on this bass as with other Zons is clear and precise with a good amount of warmth. It's exactly what I am going for when I play in the upper registers. It has surpassed all my expectations.

The fretless is well, OMG. I have a really really nice fretless Modulus that I've sworn by, but this one has more of a classic mwah to it and is so stinking easy to play. It was like I've owned it for 20 years. I'm not used to the extended board or radiused pickups. For those of you that like a ramp, this could be a dream. I lowered the pickups and tweaked the preamp to make up for it. This enabled me to get my fingertips deeper into the string which for me is a plus. My band didn't want me to put the fretted back on because the fretless gave such a huge texture change to the sound of the trio.

Joe and the crew have been fantastic to work with through the build process. I've spoken to Joe and a number of the guys dozens of times discussing the build. Addison and I shared some great laughs and stories at the NAMM booth. Overall, it's been a very positive experience for me and I wouldn't hesitate to do another custom build with Zon. Maybe someday I'll get a tricked out Mosaic Mojo, but for now Ive got my hands full with spectacular basses that in my book are also works of art.

Hey guys.
I got this 519H a few days ago, the fit and finish is perfect and feels great, but I still can't figure out the controls! Any idea what the controls do?

What preamp is in it?

Without knowing anything about the preamp, I'd say you have two volumes, two coil taps (or series/parallel?), bass/mid/treb and passive tone IF there is a pot to pull to engage passive. Or it could be one like Audere that has low and high mids separately- hard to know without knowing what preamp it is.

Killer looking Zon Danny. If it had an ash body I would have tried to snatch it up. I'd also want some of the controls pushed out of the way, but I could have gotten used to it.

Those Aeros must kill in that configuration.

Addison, you guys are the best!
Honestly, I sat the 6 string in my lap for about 45 min and looked at it admiring the craftsmanship. This bass sounds like I'm playing the guts of a Steinway with rubber mallets. I'm going to make some sound samples and get them up asap. The switchable pickups are friggin insane. I basically get the configurations of: pbass, 70's Jbass, Music Man, Lakland, and Warrior by using the push pull vol knobs to select different pickup variations.

Not that the bass sounds like all of those classics, but it alters the sound of my bass with those configurations. Wicked cool!!!

My experience with you guys has been great. All I can say is that I'd do it again. I'd probably try to convince Joe to make me a tricked out Mosaic Mojo or a 5 string classic with singles.

My hands hurt from playing this thing all weekend. I need to take a break soon.

Btw, are your strings Hex cores? They are super stiff, but sound great. I'm a DR Sunbeam or Highbeam guy because I like the round core pliability. I'll have to try out a set soon.

Amazing people, amazing work. I'm proud to be on Joe's roster.

I'm kind of digging the old school chrome. I'm actually going to change out the knobs at some point to chrome so they'll match. I don't really think much about the hardware when I'm playing. I've got gold on my Fodera Emperor Standard and I know a lot of people changed theirs out for black. Meh, as long as they match... :)

The 19mm is killing on this bass though. very playable.

Yeah, I prefer wider spacing as well.

Anyway, congrats again on the bass! Such a beauty.:hyper:

Hey All,

Here's a short clip that shows the different sounds ( at least when thumbing ) created by switching between single and dual coil pickups on my TJ6 Custom.

Friggin LOVE this bass!!!!

Eq set flat and going direct into my Zoom Q3HD recorder.

I'll post some more soon with actual playing :)
