That first picture looks like you were out on a country road fifty miles west of Telluride on a mesa the morning after the Mushroom festival ended. They do have a festival like that .The Ouray hot springs are just over black bear pass.Nice pics .

Been really loving on my new rig .Zon sonus 5-1 cocobolo top over ash/ Mesa Big block 750 .I love the tone so much Iam just really satisfied .Have never had this nice of wooly creamy tube tone ever.Have been putting in alot of hours cause once I start playing just cant put it down .A true tone pleasure.

The Factory preset output level for the ZP-4 is midpoint .This setting was super hot on my Sonus 5-1 Bart MM style pickup. I noticed it was overdriving my friends amp, but it did not do that to his active Ibanez basses.I turned it all the way down with much better sonic results .If I need a signal boost I can always switch the input on my amp to passive ,wich has not been the case.

My bad .You know your absolutely correct .Iam a terrible writer .To the point of embarrassment.I need to take an english class or not post .Not like Iam saying anything significant anyway .

NAH!! It's not all that! Just break up your text into chunks. That's all. Just makes it easier to read. I think you have good comments, and I'm betting people skip your posts simply because of the big text blob. No biggie... just trying to help a little. Keep posting! :)

Hey golower, how about posting a photo of your 5-1? Mine is the only bass I have that survived a 12 year, 25 bass merry-go-round. I would be surprised if there were many of these around. Mine has been the favorite of 2 country bands I've played in.

There are some pics of it on the thread about Jan 9th .It is the only instrument I own.Ordered a hardshell case for it too.Gig bags just are not my bag especially for an instrument of this caliber.
One time my neice was standing on top of my Stingray 5 case . I couldnt believe it .Nothing is safe in this world .Iam also getting a gunsafe to put my bass in and bolting it to the floor .Not going to let some thick skinned thief just run off with my prized instrument to buy his next fix.I actually traded my prized 57 Chevy 210 post for this bass .
Many years ago I sold it to pay off debt and was supposed to get another one .Three kids later the price of a classic Chevy quadrupled so I told my wife Iam getting this bass and I dont want to hear about it .I still hear about it .I would love to have that car but I do play this bass everyday and love it .Happy to own it .

The pics of the 5-1 are on page 48 of part three post 952 .Thanks bobunit for putting those up.Iam sure there are a few 5-1 's out there .The stock option for body wood is alder on the 5-1 order page of the Zon website .I prefer hash.er umm ash i meant.

I was thinking of catching widespread panick at the Orpheum in Minneapolis this Sunday .Phish ,Panick, and Bob Weir all play Quantums .I wonder why the jam bands all play quantums? Those are great basses but for some reason I always liked the VJ4 better than them .

That is an AWESOME bass.

What are the controls?

I'm certain that there's a master volume, midrange and a bass/treble stack, but what's the knob next to the volume for?

Is it like a coil blend or passive tone control or something?

Is it like a coil blend or passive tone control or something?
I'd also guess one of these two, but I'm going to go with it being a quad coil pickup and the blend being between the front two and back two like two humbuckers jammed right next to each other, wired out of phase for the "funky/scooped" type tone with the blend in the middle.

Now, let's have golower chime in and give us the facts. :)

+1 it is as you stated. Top back stacked bass and treble. Top middle pickup coil selector. then volume . Bottom is a push pull treble on two different frequencies. Thanks for posting those again . Iam very proud of the bass. I gave up alot to get it but ive played bass since 1980 and it is important to me . I need the low action and playability of graphite or it is too painful to play and is not fun then.Beware of repetetive motion injuries . They are debilitating. My arms even hurt after playing this fine instrument for three hours. It sounds as good as it looks. I was trying to replicate my stingray 5 . I am very fond of this Zon it stomps it .

I was checking out some four ten cabs in a music store the other day with it and played Badge by Cream and this older guy came up to me with a big smile and said it sounded FANTASTIC. I had to agree with him . Peg portaflex and 4-10 sounded real great.

Iam not . Iam very into melodic newer metal and no one wants to jam with the old guy.All my friends want to play covers and Iam just not into that. They want to make money. I want to have fun and create new music that is my own. Iam very into the killswitch engage format . I love their guitar players. I want to play music in that format of metal, hardcore and melody but its hard to find the correct people . I find the younger players are disillusioned with wanting to be famous and become signed and older people my age do not like that style . I have also been very busy buiding a home. Working alot and iam working on designing and building a line of bass speaker cabinets for bass players. Its what i have wanted to do for many years now and it is being worked on . I have a wood shop and i think the bass community will really like the supreme quality of the enclosures. Serious they are pretty damn bad ass and very hi fidelity. Send me a private message and i will let you check the bass out . I would love to check your Roscoes out too.
