Beautiful! What's the little cover near the neck on the back of the body? Truss rod access cover?
Has anyone had any luck fitting more than 1 D-tuner on a Sonus? I end up playing with an eclectic group of local musicians where we can switch from Drop A# prog metal to playing 12 bar blues to butchering 90s classics all in an afternoons practice session. I'm a fan of making things overly complicated and I think I can get away with all of my bass range needs with a 2 stop D-tuner on the E and a drop tuner on the G string as well.
Think I can fit both on the headstock?

You can fit them on the E and G on a four string but the levers on then A/D will hit, and the base plates will touch. The base plates should just fit on E/G. So, two. Not sure how helpful the G detuner is.

Tuner layout is different than on a standard Sonus.
I don’t know about that. The tuner layout on the video looks pretty much like a standard Sonus 4 headstock to me
Mr. Manring's tuners look to be spaced farther apart laterally.
I have a four string and a hyperbass. Four detuners fit on one and not the other. The holes are slightly wider spaced, and I think the headstock might be slightly wider but I’ve never measured it. I recall Joe Zon mentioning something about that though.

You mentioned you don't want TI's, but that's precisely what I've found the best match for me. Chromes were also ok, but for some reason, LaBella flats didn't sound good on mine (pre-trussrod Sonus 5 fretless). Curious to hear what you settle on
The D'Addarrio Chromes have a more consistently dark overtone across all strings while the DTs are a bit more scooped by comparison. The mids are also a bit more prevalent on the DTs. The tension is a bit lighter than the Chromes and it includes a tapered B - which I think all 5 string sets should have anyway, but what do I know... That was a nice surprise. Interesting that the silk lands so close to the nut compared to the others but it's come to no harm. I like them. May try something different the next time around, we'll see.

Works for me, those are the only 2 strings I could use one on. I'm interested in the D-Tuner on the G string to flip between G and C to muddle though some 6 string songs that I've been trying to shoehorn on a 4 string. It's not ideal but close enough to get the job done.
I’m trying to find a hardshell case for a 2004 Sonus 8-string. It has a slightly smaller body than my 2007 Sonus 5 and I’ve not found a good match, anyone know of a hardshell that’s a good fit? Thanks!
Not sure about the headstock length, but when I got my Sonus 5-strings in the late '90s I bought Music Man Tolex covered PW hardshell cases for them; perfect fit.

Ha! On the contrary... I love the bass and just want to feel better about protecting it. It’s my only bass not in a hardshell
Can't blame a guy for trying, right?
Please just play it often as you can and enjoy the strings off of it!
And if it ever crosses your mind to sell it to someone who will take good care of it, I'd take it as a kindness if you reach out.
