Official Zon Club Part 5

Thank you! I am really thinking about taking the plunge. I am just scared. I have played a wal the past year and a half and im so use to that midrange ballsy growl. I fear nothing I get will match it. I'm really turned on to the idea of the composite neck and phenowood fingerboard alot!

It's hard because I don't have anyplace I can try them. I am strictly going off of videos, sound clips, and others information. The nearest Zon dealer to me is about 6-7 hours away. I really think I wanna get one but its alot of money to drop so im hesitant. I thought they were more in the 3K range as well. When I spec'd one out on the Zon site the minimum sale price was 4400$!

Visiting good music stores is one of my favorite things to do on vacation. If you're ever in the D.C. area I know Jive Sound in Alexandria has Zons.

As mentioned above, buying used on TB is always an option. You can turn it around pretty easily if you're not happy.

I think you are right to get your hands on one so you can judge for yourself. The travel expenses can pay off though if it helps you find one you like or make up your mind to order one.

Sounds like your happy with your Wal.Iam pretty sure you will like Zon they are fabulous but since you are happy You should try one first.It sounds like your going to flip your Wal to get a Zon ? Trying Zon first may save you some money and hassle to be able to make a comparison if you happened to prefer the Wal in the long run. Do try a Zon they are pretty great instruments. My father in law always said "you cant price a pig in a porkbarrel".We can try to do that but all too often it does not work that way. Just my three sense.

Yeah I would have to flip the wal to buy the zon :hmm: I cant afford to have 2 basses of that value. I think the zon will shine in the areas where the wal lacks but I just fear the zon not getting a gutsy enough sound. I know its not gonna mimic a wal, nor do I want it to. I just want to make sure im able to get some of that growly low end

I think most bass players would love a Zon in terms of sound and playability.The other day I was thinking about my Zon as I was playing it and thinking about how it was so fast and how it felt on my neck hand.The back of the necks are super smooth .It kind of really caught my attention when I tuned into it ,how soft fast and comfy the neck is .A luxury to play.:)

They were positive. That bass has a huge sound especially with the East preamp. It's very clear but sweet. Throwing in some mids made it bark the tolex off a few cabs. When I was in the GK booth the Zon made the cabinets and fusion head come alive. They sounded old school thuddy with the Exotic bass in their booth.

A lot of people were curious about the pickups and how they were tapped. The versatility is a bit overwhelming ;)

With 3 settings S/SHB/S per pickup, pan, and then the onboard EQ, there really isn't a sound I can't find.

I'd just like to pop in and testify that the Sonus 4 that is in the upper left-hand portion of this picture is unbelievably killer...

I saw some amazing players play this bass... and they made it sing... Spencer Doren and Cody Ryan (Fourchestra) were particularly fun to listen to. I wish I got video, but there was too much going on at times.

Anyway... If anyone is looking for a 4-string and likes Zon, this would be a major score and I believe it's still available, for some strange reason.

Crap. Even though I have a Legacy Elite 4 on the way, this is bad news, because that bass really grabbed my attention... :help:

I'm wondering how close Joe could get to that bass in 519 form? :ninja:

VERY close.

Did anyone notice if it had singles in it? I wonder if it did... my older Sonus has singles and it's tone is unreal.

Joe told me a while ago that they don't use "true singles" anymore (unless someone orders them specifically) because people would complain about the noise... yes, really. :confused:

I'm pretty sure it had the Zon custom wound by Bill "skinny soap bars" that are hum cancelling.

I'll ask him, though... maybe they still do sometimes.

They all were spanking!!! I loved the classic 5 but I'd need it in 19mm
