Giving this thread a kick in the pants.

Looks amazing! Congrats (nearly)!! Glad to see more builds with the blackened redwood.

That said, you don't know the meaning of LOOOOOOONG ;)
Thanks!!

Well, I gave Joe the specs for this bass the first time over 3 years ago... I've been "officially" waiting for over 2.5 years... that's the longest I've ever waited for a bass.

I salute anyone who has waited longer than that.

Nice! That's the really old school logo, right?
Thanks!

Yes, it is... Joe did not have that logo in digital format to use for anything, so he had me redesign it using some headstock pictures he took of for a couple of special 25th anniversary Legacy 4's that were going over to Japan. I was already a fan of his original logo (Pedulla is another one... love the original logo) and since I helped redesign it, I asked if I could use it on my Legacy. I'm not sure if he was super hip on the idea at first, but when I explained myself he warmed up to it a bit more.

It was just one more small thing to make the bass unique and my own... I'm really glad I went with it.

Welp, for those who don't follow the official ZON Facebook and Instagram accounts (@zonguitars), here are a few pics of my LOOOOONG awaited lefty Legacy Elite 5 build...

Beautiful! Full gloss or matte, in the end?
Thanks man!

Joe and I talked about it, and I see benefits in both. I honestly prefer satin finishes because they're easier to clean and maintain and they just feel better to me. But, super fancy woods don't look nearly as nice under satin as they do under gloss... gloss is much more difficult to complete as well, since satin is just a coat of spray over a semi-buffed body and gloss needs to be completely buffed... it's incredibly difficult to do properly, but Joe has it down.

Anyway, Joe said it's going to be a surprise... I have a feeling he's going to do gloss body and headstock face and satin neck, but I'm not sure.

Either way it goes, I'd be happy... so we'll see.

Kudos to you if he does. I asked about that once (albeit years ago) and the challenge was with a set neck he said the blend wouldn't be very clean. Maybe he's perfected a method since then.

Yeah I did, too, with the same answer.

I have gloss and satin, and am completely happy with both. This bass will look amazing either way!
You guys might not want to watch this then...

He can definitely do it... but he did tell me it's a pain in the ass to get right, and many of us here know that "right" to Joe means f$%#ing perfect.

We'll see what I end up with... I'm so pumped I can't even stand it.

It's been years and years since I mentioned it, so I'm pretty sure it ended up spec'd as gloss and will probably show up that way. I'm not sure if it is too late or not, but I'll take whatever I get.

I remember that piece of Koa.

Is your bass 19mm spacing? Looks wide!
