You can get rosewood on other colors but not on blue.

The bear is a made in california logo.

I played a Caprice today at GC. It feels good and is light but I did not love the tone. I probably would pass on this bass.

I know it has been said already....but that took me off guard as one of those Ibanez P basses from the 80's

Yikes! I would expect these to street for about $1,200 - $1,400, tops. Aren't these priced higher than a standard Stingray/Sterling??

I can think of a lot of other basses I'd rather blow 1,700 clams on. I see these basses as a novelty that will be around for a year or two before they're discontinued and everyone forgets all about them.

That is, until a used one shows up on Craigslist or eBay for a ridiculous asking price and we all poke fun at the seller and/or bass for a couple of days.

The thing is; I kinda dig the tone of the Caprice. I like the fact that it doesn't sound like a P, J or a Stingray, but is an amalgamation of the three. But for me, the price of admission is too high for what might be just a passing allure. I don't even think I'd pay $1400 for a new one. I'd just wait for them to show up on the used market.

I would have expected some differences like a preamp or special switching or something.

I paid $1520 shipped. Easily worth that price. Quality is flawless, rock solid feel. Preamps are cheap so Im not sure why you'd expect a passive bass to cost meaningfully less than a similar active. These are a cool unique bass with a very punchy, throaty, very EBMM take on a P tone. The bridge pickup is more like half of an MM pickup than it is a J pickup. Solo P is amazing. Blended with just a touch more neck than bridge it takes off a touch of the bark and adds back some growl. Killer. 50/50 blend is pretty phasey on the high strings like all PJs, but the low strings sound really modern and punchy. I have owned everything you can imagine including 60s and 70s fenders, custom shop fenders, foderas, sadowskys, mtd, modulus, zon ... Caprice is legit, hangs with any of them.

I just got to play a Caprice today. Very nice! Sounded great! I don't particularly care for the style of the body. It also had some neck dive. That being said those are really the only negatives to me. Super light. Sounded smooth.

Played a Caprice this weekend at GC. Very polite sounding, IMHO. Nice build quality, but I didn't dig the tone at all.

My Caprice came yesterday. Amazing craftsmanship, well made and top notch finish. I'm use to a Fender P bass so the neck felt a little small but I quickly got use to it. Sounds great and was setup perfectly. I just had to adjust the truss rod slightly. The bass body is on the small side which is nice and it's pretty light as well. Sound wise it's what I expected. P bass pickup for thump and jazz for more cut.

Played one at GC today. I probably only spent about 15 minutes with it, but it was a very nice bass. On the one I played, the two pickups were very well balanced, moreso than most PJ types.
