I was told by Rich Koerner that patching the 2 channels together would result in them being out of phase and not sound very good, so I never tried it. I usually use the guitar channel. The bass channel sounds good, but in a decidedly meaty, vintage way. This wouldn't work for all of the songs my band plays, where the guitar channel's clean, clear tone does. It's awesome for our 5 string stuff (ADGCF), surprisingly. My fretless likes a little of that nice Fender reverb too. Took a while to find portable, loud, great sounding cabs but once I did I was happy. I don't think the 300PS is quite the odd duck the 400PS is. I'm a bit terrified of the day it needs servicing again, the tech that set it up is out of business and no techs in my area can even handle changing a 12AX7.

I wonder if just reversing the leads on the jumper cable would fix the phase thing or if it's not that simple.

300PS has the same, or at least quite similar, preamp. Runs 4 6550/KT88 at quite high voltage for its 300 watts and doesn't have the 3 separate output amp thing happening. Maybe more of a "regular amp" more techs could handle.

I almost bought a 400PS speaker cabinet several years ago. Impractical as all get out, but I was attracted to the "coolness" factor and the dirt cheap price.

Then I realized it would never be used for anything other than as a "conversation piece", would take up space in my house, and I'd have as much trouble selling it as the guy I was going to buy it from.

When I had my "conversation piece" the conversation went something like this:
"When are you gonna save enough dough to buy a decent speaker ?"
"The band isn't making enough for me to afford one."
" Maybe we'd make more if we didn't sound like crap"
"From where I'm standing it sounds great !"
"Well let's just invite everyone to stand onstage next to you."
"Oh shut up and help me get this thing off the truck."

I'd imagine so. Cheaper to retube too. It might still be over the official Talkbass amp weight limit though.

Roadie assistance required, though: the head is 84 lbs, 3 cabs at 126 lbs each = total weight 462 lbs. I'd love to try this one!

I'm with you, there. I'd totally use that rig. I love weird old amps, and I love playing loud. Weird old amps that are probably excruciatingly loud? The best.
