Ohms question

I am getting forgetful and I cannot remember - I just bought it a new combo amp which clearly states 4 ohm minimum so that means the combo as is right now is 8 ohms and I can add a 8 ohm extension cabinet (within wattage of course) to the combo and it would be alright because then it would be at that 4 ohm minimum right? Just nothing 2 ohms.

There is a possibility (what combo are we talking about here?) that the speaker inside there is 4 ohm, and the only manufacturer-provided output is hooked to it, and you need to disconnect it before using anything else.

Knowing what combo it is will help us give a definitive answer, though. For example, if there is an extension cab output that says minimum 4 ohm (like the old Peavey Combo 300), or if the amp itself is minimum 4 ohm. It could be that the speaker inside is 4 ohms, but is wired with a 1/4 inch plug that can be easily disconnected from the internal speaker, BUT it has two speaker outputs. A rackmount unit inside a box could have this happenin'.

Awesome thanks for the manual! I did multiple Google searches for any information on my combo and even just the amp and mostly came up short on results. The combo in question is indeed a Trace Elliot GP7 Series 6 2x10 combo amp (red stripe model) that states on the back it's 250w and a 4 ohm minimum but does feature a jack for extension cabinet. It's been hard to find info because like I said I have yet to see another combo like mine where the speakers are diagonal and not horizontal to each other but everything about the combo seems legit to TE so again perhaps this was a prototype or limited run model of the 2x10 combo back in the day? Unfortunately where it says serial, date of manufacture and other info it was wrote in Sharpie it looks like back then and has since rubbed off or is beyond readable. Attached is a picture if it helps.

I would be surprised if you could use an external speaker with that without disconnecting the external speaker. 99% of 2x10's are 4 ohms.
Then I find it confusing why a amp with a extension cab jack would be used if it's that much work to either use the internal or external speaker(s). Perhaps it was an easier and lazier way to make use of left over materials and amps and turn them into combos like this one back in the day.

For crying out loud, if you stuck to the Team Trace thread you wouldn't be getting duff advice. I already told you what was what with that puppy.

Whether or not you can add a cab depends on what's loaded in it presently. If it's all original no problem to add 8ohm.

Sure, I did not get very many responses on that thread so was merely asking a simple question...no need to get over animated about it.
