Watch the ads for oil change specials. Sometimes Napa has good deals, sometimes Vato Zone etc.... you get the idea. Oil isn't cheap, expect to pay anywhere from $18 to $24 for 5 quarts and a filter. Avoid Chinese oil filters like the plague.

For sure. I only use Fram filters, and the one for my car is usually around $6.
I tend to buy whichever brand is on sale while avoiding the really cheap stuff.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with a Fram oil filter. There is nothing especially great about them, either. Oil filters are all made by 2-3 companies, who paint the shell different colors for different "makes", who sell them for different prices.
When I owned a Victory motorcycle, I did a lot of research on alternate filters for it (the factory one cost about $15); turned out it was the same filter as an older Lexus V-6 used, and Walmart had a store brand one that cost $2.65! Also, it was a much better filter than the stock one (caught much finer particles). Was also a better filter than a Fram. See if they have one for your car. It will work as well (at the very least) and will be cheaper.

My supervisors son took his car to quick lube place for 3 years. his motor locked up so he took it to shop. they told him he was supposed to change oil once in a while. he pulled out all the receipts for oil changes. They showed him the oil filter the car came off the lot with. The oil change place ended up replacing the engine because they never actually changed any oil in 3 years.

I also took an oil and lube class thru my work. Wix filters are some of the best. Napa filters are made by wix for Napa. Fram not a very good filter. Calstol Gtx, valvoline, halvoline good oils. Penzoil not very good. There is no difference between synthetic and synthetic blend because both are technically blends of synth and dino oil unless you buy Redline. Redline is 100% symthethic and thus its actually a chemical that turns to sulfuric acid if left too long.

I have HIGH doubts about there being no difference, as there would be the purpose of marketing a blend? Also there are other synths available

idk, the instructor that was hired to teach the class teaches lube and lubrication to companies all over the world including the big three automobile manufacturers. He does research on petroleum products in his lab. He's done work for several petroleum companies like mobile and shell. He knows his stuff.

I have a nasty habit of not believing what every website or instructor will tell me about oil and filters. Too many years of professional wrenching and building hot rods/monster trucks of all type have taught me differently.

There's nothing wrong with a Fram filter and plain old dino oil, including Pennzoil. I ran whatever oil and Fram filters on my 84 K10, and before it went to the boneyard with a rotten frame I popped the oil pan off to inspect the bearings. I could see the date 8-83 stamped on the back and they were still gray in color. The inside of the engine was surprisingly clean. This truck towed racecars all over the east coast and plowed snow during the winter, so it wasn't a driveway queen.

The truck had 375,000 miles on it when I sent it away. Original engine.

Mean while the only engine I ever dissected was a 97 land rover. GUNK, EVERYWHERE, took days to remove from heads, cams, oil pan ect

Ive always used Fram filters as my father has used them for as long as I can remember. I cant say that Ive ever had a problem due to my oil filter.

i personally have had problems with the O-rings on fram filters. I used them for years but the frams of today arent what they were 20yrs ago. I never said there was something wrong with dino oil. I run dino in both my trucks, tahoe, motorcycle, and all my other toys. I just havent run penzoil in 17yrs. I've had too many mechanics/friends/relatives advise aginst it and after doing some simple tests in class I wont bother with it.
