I'd tell him to shove it and wander off to the next cave where there might be more valid choices.
Given I HAD to choose: Fender. I'd take 50hz hum over a coffee table with golden hardware every day.

I'd grab the fender P, I just like the way their necks feel, I've never even seen an alembic IRL
I'd take the Alembic and not even glance at the Fender P. I've never owned a P Bass of any vintage that I've kept for more than a couple of years. The just aren't for me.

Now wait a freaking second, Mr Wizard. I go through all this crap, fighting off perverted trolls, crossing ice bridges, dodging fireballs and then killing the bad old dragon which I guess you couldn't handle or you would not have needed me to do it.
