I prefer All Tube Heads.. From Mesa I own the "Stradegy 88","400",and "400+".. All great heads,heavy but worth it for the tone and warmth I'm looking for in my "Live" and Studio sounds..
Waiting the definitive gig report from Chef, who probably wanted a more powerful WA more than anyone. As far as video demos go, other than live band scenarios, I much rather like the ones where the player plays one simple riff, while going through all the different tone variations.
This is TB. Is it ever not time to whip out our wallets?

I keep envisioning a 212 on top of a 115 powered by the WD800

I'm gonna hold out with an open mind. I'm with you. The Walkabout has some serious mojo.
But the guys at Mesa know the legacy of that head. I'm sure they factored it in. I'm guessing the differences in overall "voice" will be subtle.

Put your money where your mouth is. Don't berate a manufacturer for not making your perfect amp and then not buy it when they do.
(I have nothing to do with Mesa. I already own a Walkabout. It is stupid loud and light enough for me.)
I never chimed-in (not that I remember, anyway) during the MegaWalkabout survey, thinking, "I don't need to contribute, because I'll never buy the thing."
Well, a Sweetwater rep. said I was, "like, the second one" to order from them. It'll be my first new amp since buying a Demeter VTBP-201s in 2006. (I have purchased a few more than needed from TB classifieds in the last few years.)
Funny thing to me is some of the (anticipated) push-back after Mesa releases exactly what TB asked for (and much sooner than I expected).
And knocking the demo video? It makes me think folks are listening through their phone or tablet speakers. It sounds great through my Sony MDR headphones.
I'm only going on memory, but the tone presented in the demo definitely reminds me of my years with the Walkabout, and what I hear when reviewing my old live or studio recordings using the Walkabout.
My only complaint: Why didn't they name it MegaWalkabout? @agedhorse , they haven't shipped. There is still time.

arrived to me yesterday I'm super stoked, loving it so far, as for the WA I love it too it has its place as does my Mpulse 600, this new amp looks amazing and it's probably gonna be in the stable too in the future but I'm not in a hurry!!
I don't understand the taut nipples over tube preamps. Seemingly every amp in the 90s had a tube pre, and they didn't sound any better or worse than any amp that didn't. It's mostly a sales gimmick, in my opinion. The D800 has no tube preamp, and it sounds amazing, and is very warm.
If the drummer needs to borrow $20.
Most of the "tube preamps" of the 90s WERE sales gimmicks. You could have just as easily connected the socket holes with wires instead of running through the tube because there wasn't enough voltage going through that thing to do any good.
The Walkabout tube pre is not that at all. It makes a tremendous difference.
None of this is meant to take away from the D800/800+. The Walkabout and Subway amps/preamps are different animals and both impressive.
You're probably right. Some of the most expensive amps I ever owned were ones that had tube preamps, and even my Ampeg SVT-3PRO, which had a hefty circuitry of tubes in the pre, didn't sound wildly different to me than the mega cheap B2R or B5R I also owned. They all just sounded like Ampegs to me. Maybe I don't have a discerning ear.
LOL. Yeah, really. Agedhorse should have gotten them to name it the TB800.
