I never chimed-in (not that I remember, anyway) during the MegaWalkabout survey, thinking, "I don't need to contribute, because I'll never buy the thing."

Well, a Sweetwater rep. said I was, "like, the second one" to order from them. It'll be my first new amp since buying a Demeter VTBP-201s in 2006. (I have purchased a few more than needed from TB classifieds in the last few years.)

Funny thing to me is some of the (anticipated) push-back after Mesa releases exactly what TB asked for (and much sooner than I expected).

And knocking the demo video? It makes me think folks are listening through their phone or tablet speakers. It sounds great through my Sony MDR headphones.
I'm only going on memory, but the tone presented in the demo definitely reminds me of my years with the Walkabout, and what I hear when reviewing my old live or studio recordings using the Walkabout.

My only complaint: Why didn't they name it MegaWalkabout? @agedhorse , they haven't shipped. There is still time.

Also, I'm sure Andy doesn't have a problem with his new gear being the most talked about thing here. Sure, it may be a lot to keep track of. But that's a lot better than nobody talking about it. ;)

I can attest to that. I also had a B2R for a while, then upgraded to an SVT-3Pro and later a 4Pro, and I could never really tell the difference, except for volume. My ears may not be very trustworthy though...

That said, I probably couldn't tell the difference between amp manufacturers in a blind test either. All I know is when the bass sounds good and when it sounds bad...

Smartassery aside, when/if they put out a pedal-style preamp version similar to the Subway preamp I'll probably nab one. Given how well the Subway preamp seems to have done I imagine it'll happen sooner or later.

If only my current Genz Benz, Eden, and Markbass amps were less reliable! Unfortunately they all continue to work and sound great.

But the first new amp I'd pick up would be a Quilter BB800.

I tried a Walkabout in a store eons ago and was able to get either it or the cabinet it was running in to to fart out pretty easily. So a newer higher powered Walkabout looks pretty tempting, especially with the nod to the M6 in its appearance, but this is not something I have personally ever asked for. So for the purposes of this thread I am off the hook.

I will say a more reliable and robust version of the M2000 would also spark interest, but not necessarily a buy. Still one of the best pre-amps ever for blending a clean low end and some top-end breakup I have every used. If I played music that needed that kind of tone all the time I might pre-commit, but none of my projects really live in that space. A nice OD pedal meets all of my needs for crunchiness.

Hey two-fer... if you get a wild hair and drop one of them 800w monsters in your Scout 15 × 2 stack, send me a PM... I'd like to visit the Carolina coast with one of my favorite basses. :D

I'm a WalkAbout diehard. My Scout 15 is getting hard to drag around, the handle is shot (again) but dang that thing sounds good. Just knowing that they made an 800w model makes me happy. Yeah, I'll probably end up with one before it's overwith. :cool:

Andy replied to me yesterday. The dang this fits right into the Scout cab! :wideyed:

I mean..... I just got a dang SVT and an Ampeg 610 to set next to my Walkabout stack..... and how THIS????? :cool:

If there was a 'compressor' knob on that thing, ( in place of the passive mid control) I would have the tracking number already! I'm just too lazy to carry around even a small piece of outboard gear... :)

Uh-huh... I know. Dang those guys! They did exactly what we told 'em too! :laugh:

The good news is, the old WalkAbout is the same as having (at least) a $500 coupon towards the new 800w model. ;)

Probably not, the differences are large enough that it will mostly be different players, though certainly some will.
