And, we're all entitled to our opinions. I simply offer the following observations:
1) Listen to the mix of the original tune (whatever genre) on the juke and rank the presence of the voicing in the mix. Aside from guitar solos, you will find in most cases in order of decreasing presence: vox, snare, bass, the rest. The snare is there because it plays a key role for the backbeat and sets up the groove. In Jazz its the sock etc.
2) Try taking the bass out of any mix and see if it still grooves. Take Jamerson's line out of a Motown mix and see if it still grooves. Take Tom Hamilton's line out of an Aerosmith tune and see if it still grooves. The backbeat alone from snare doesn't quite do it.
