OK, What's the Final Verdict on Class D?

You don't even need a shock rack with the Shuttles, they are built to tour with a standard rack. They are too light for a shock rack to provide any additional benefit.

I play a warwick corvette fna which I got because its large humbucking pickup was low hum. Now I notice with the class d amp that there is no hum at all. I used to have more hum until I touched the strings then it got quieter, so the hum came and went.

I had thought this was coming from the environment, but now I am wondering if the hum was coming from the power transformer in my old amps. If hum is not an issue anymore, I am free to get a single-coil, or at least less monsterous humbucker.

Maybe its the lack of amp noise between notes that gives me the sense that this amp has a different feel--which I like for the most part.

I stumbled on this article about problems with electrolytic caps. Class D amps work the caps pretty hard.

That's due to defective capacitor design and/or improper application of capacitors in a design. It's not something experienced designers would do. We use the highest quality parts we can, the "value" of saving a few pennies doesn't really apply in our industry at the higher end of the market. Computer power supplies are made in the tens of millions, so saving a few pennies adds up to real money and is tempting enough that some manufacturers/vendors slide over to the dark side.
 
Last weekend, I drove our classic rock band through a Shuttle 6 sitting on a 40 pound 2x12. The 6 is reputed to be "anemic," but I barely had the Master past 9 o'clock and was getting dirty looks from the sound guy while we're pushing 120 dB's out the front.
Umm, no. Not "120 dB's." That's jet engine territory. Glad you like your amp though.
We (the people) are not really good judges of SPL since our perception is based on hearing which is relative to person and circumstance. Even the common, cheapo Rat-shack SPL meters have questionable accuracy, particularly at low frequencies and at high SPLs.

The Invalid Link Removed rules the day when it comes to stage amplification and most PA's. Taking the PA and any room gain or loss out of the equation, an amp would have to produce upwards of 140db at 1meter in order to put out over 120db in FOH only ~25 feet away. It's possible for a bass amp to do that (a very, very big one), but not possible for a 600 watt, 2x12" rig.
