Okay, so who else is having serious problems with their Ashdown ABM?

Lol. Too big and corporate? Did you know Ashdown is made up of only 8 people?

Depends how you count. Is it the same 8 people that run the British office and make their amps in China and sell them in the States as well?

I've said this before these problems all came to the fore - they expanded way too fast and focused way too much on the gimmicks and that never ends well which all these problems are arguably indicative of. I still maintain the belief that'll lead them to needing a buyout. Perhaps by Behringer? Wouldn't that be something! Either way, hyperexpansion never works.

Since Fender offered Ashdown an incredible offer a few years ago to sell and with Ashdown turning them down(a move that infuriated Fender),I don't think they will be selling to any body especially Behringer.

A few years ago they still were in the largest Canadian retail chain before being dropped due to QC issues, and a few years ago threads exposing ongoing problems like these, Chinese manufacture, and a new slew of products and products changes - many of them based more on looks than substance IMO - hadn't yet happened.

Trace didn't sell at their peak, and neither did Eden or SWR.

Again I don't think they will be selling to any body.

Lol, there is a lot of ill informed nonsense gets posted on here. What are the gimmicks that you speak of? Think you are confusing Ashdown with Line 6. Bought out by Behringer, great idea as Behringer have an excellent reputation for reliable high end amps.;)

Yeah, gee, I can't think of any gimmicks in Ashdown gear. Can (v)u?

As for Behringer reliability, if I had to choose between the two based on the probability of failure alone currently I'd choose the Behringer.

Hey guys,
I'm fairly new to posting on TB,although I have been visiting for a while....

I have an original ABM EVO 500 2x10 combo (before the II series).
Two questions:
1) I thought I heard Pablomigraine(who I e-mailed when I first got the amp) say in this thread that the ABM problems were limited to the heads and not the combos. That would make sense to me, as the combo seems to work fine(and it's the best sounding amp I've ever played).
So I'm wondering if I am safe with this combo....

2) The fans are on all the time. Is that supposed to be the case?

Any help would be appreciated!
Tom

No I didn't know that; but I do know that the moon isn't made of green cheese!

Go to this site, look at the range of products, then come back and tell me that just 8 people produce it all.

Ashdown was probably made up of just around 8 people initialy, those were the days when if you rang the company Mark Goodhay would answer personaly.

Going over this thread since it first started,I kind of wish I was having problems with my Ashdown gear :) I feel a little left out :)

I play Funk,Rock,R&B,Soul,Avantgarde,Avantfunk,Harmolodic's and various forms of Jazz and other genres that's very very hard driving(grooving and soloing), and I have for what ever reason yet to encounter any problems other than a fuse going out on one of my 210 500wt combos VU meters light(and that was after almost 10 years of serious usage).

I figure it's also worth mentioning that the 'Perfect Ten' combo I got recently is really great(especially for the price!). Hopefully that and my EVO 500 2x10 combo last a long time 'cause they sure sound great.
I do smell chicken fajitas when I fire either of them up,though.
(just kidding)

Update,
Martin has PM'd me and given me his email, wants to know some details and says it's time to make this right.

Ya gotta love that.
Martin - I will be emailing you shortly, and thanks so much for getting back to me..
:)

You're now in good hands. If Martin cannot help you, nobody in this world can...

Phone Ashdown and ask Mark, you will be surprised, and he still does answer the phone personally too.

Funny, because the RPM-1, which I bought used is a steady work horse.

Go figure.:p

I have no investment in the Ashdown discussion at all. However, as I've posted on other 'problem' threads, even the most unreliable and poorly made equipment will not have a 100% failure rate. Unreliability is most commonly defined as a much higher than typical failure rate compared to competitive products in the category (for example, a failure rate of 10% of units versus a cagegory average of 1%, etc.). So, even a product with a horrible failure rate will still have many more customers with no problems than with problems. It all has to do with the probability of having a problem out on the gig with a particular piece of gear.

The fact that some (and even many) customers (Ashdown users in this case) do not have problems with their gear has nothing to do with determining the 'reliability' of the line. While all these posts are obviously anecdotal, since the true failure rate is unknown, it does seem that a much larger number of posts and threads over time outlining similar problems with a particular piece of gear would correlate pretty highly with the actual industry numbers, and would be a strong enough indicator of a problem for me personally to stay away from purchasing that particular piece of gear.
