Sadhappy came up in a search, but no video.
These guys were great, they used to play around Seattle just before/as what the world calls grunge hit and pretty much obliterated all other musical lifeforms in Seattle.
They were more intense live than you can hear on this.

uh...I don't hear the connection to Stanley Clarke and/or RTF, but that was a pretty cool tune. They kind of reminded me of Wunderkind, an angsty psuedo-prog quartet from Boston circa 1980 who released one single and played all sorts of nasty punk-rock venues before imploding, and then reconstituting themselves as the techno-dance band November Group

Even at the time, and especially in retrospect, that period, starting at about 1979 and into the early 80s was just one of the periods when it seemed like there was an explosive growth of experimentation and innovation, pretty much simultaneously across the U.S. and into Europe. So many great regional bands, exploring their own directions, but with certain streams of discernable influence. In a different way, it was like the same kind of thing that had happened in the early to mid sixties.

There was a guy in Olympia selling these things.
A lot of bands, mostly forgotten, except by a few who remembered them from that area: Sport of Kings,
Heroic Rice Farmer, Yard Apes, Embarrassment, A New Personality (nice bass in that last one, against the koto like guitar).
Some of these have stayed in my head ever since, and still sound great.

More straight up pop, but damn they were good.


And some record store had this single.
Always kind of had a soft spot for it.
It somehow felt like Olympia did that year.
