I agree with Hopkins, symmetry is big for me, I suggest making it as symmetrical looking as possible.

Those inlays on the neck look cool.
Loving the rounded square theme of the whole thing as well.
I love the way this is coming out! It's got a real organic look to it. The wood you chose is beautiful, and blends together quite well. It has a certain flow to it. Looking forward to more pictures and progress.
Man, the moment you rounded over the front and back, this started to come together really nicely.
I hope mama-sama recognizes how lucky she is to have an extraordinary craftsdaughter.
She seems happy about me making her something. And when I make other stuff and show her, she always asks if it's for her... Like today, I made my first pen on the lathe.

She claimed it. Haha.

That's great! Can I claime the second one??!![]()
How very nice! Your skills and talent are admirable, and the work you produce quite beautiful.
I just received a pen made out of bamboo from one of me budo students today, which reminds me of the pen you made.
Those look really nice. Especially the cocobolo one.![]()
I have a question.
Are the tuning pegs held in place through a press fit, because they are tapered?
Is this part of the issue you were having with them staying in place so that the strings stayed in tune? Did you solve it? (sorry if you've already answered. I must have missed it.)
Yeah, they're a press fit. I used peg oil on them and that gives them more traction.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.
I'm assuming traditional sanshin are built this way.
It seems like such an arbitrary way to have a stringed instrument stay in tune.
Love your drying rack. Boom Boom.
It's not any different than what violins, violas, cellos, etc. use.
