just check the speakers out and make sure they all work. other than that, it's the finest 810 cab ampeg ever made, even if it doesn't handle 800w. i'd pay whatever he asks 
Yeah, playing as loud as you probably do, I'd predict plenty of blown drivers in your future if you go this route...

It doesn't handle 800 watts like the new ones do, so I'd use a lower wattage tube amp with it. Unless of course you get two of them. Then you can probably crank it if you're not too ridiculous about the bass.
I think they're probably more durable than people assume, though. When I saw Shrinebuilder live, Al Cisneros rig was just a 70's SVT and a flatback cab, and they're really loud.

Sounds like he had been using the cab as it is now....so I assume it works.

I just paid $500 for a 1974ish slant back loaded with the original CTS speakers. I run it pretty hard with my SVT-CL and it sounds amazing.
IIRC I paid ~$400 for mine, sold it for same. No Tolex, and the grille cloth had been painted in some stupid design. Officially 240 watts IIRC though I've heard they'll actually do fine with more. I didn't try it with over 300, and then I was careful to watch the volume. If I had the room I'd have kept it, it was 987,234 X sweeter sounding than any new 8X10 I've heard at Guitar Center.
With a cranked 50 Watt Plexi driving it, it was hilariously fun. Actually, that same setup worked surprisingly well with guitar as well.

if you're looking to dime an svt through it, look elsewhere. the official rating by ampeg back then was 250w rms. i have put more into mine before, but it's not going to take much more than that for a prolonged period. definitely get a newer one if you're looking to kill with volume.

But then again, I like a lot of amp overdrive in my sound. It'll probably be fine with higher wattage if you keep it clean. If you don't, get another 810 or a lower wattage amp.
No idea if Al had replacement speakers in his. The PA at the club was not that loud. In fact, the opening band's backline was louder, making their vocals hard to hear.
A 400+ is not quite 300 watts (RMS... obviously it's over 400 peak). I think it would sound pretty good.
those things are tanks. i have a flat back from the 70s with orig speakers. and ive been running an svt 6 pro with it for 2 years i crank it all the time no problems. the 6pro is like 1100 watts.
you may crank it, but the likelihood of putting an actual 1100w through it is not great.
