Old Bass, New Paint Day (OBNPD)

Attached is a quick photo of my 2013 (not too old) Select Precision that I had painted satin finish Lake Placid Blue Poly by Sim's Custom Shop. It was formally 2 TSB Nitro that had an unexplained large ding on the lower horn appear one day. I had not played it, it was sitting in the guitar rack with 4 other basses. My fiancee claimed no knowledge, but I have my suspicions. Regardless it was depressing to look at so I did some research and decided to send it off for a makeover. I'm more than pleased with the results! The other mod to the bass is a set of GZR pickups, otherwise it's unchanged. Highest recommendation to Pat Sims Guitar Painting and Refinishing
I originally was going with a gloss finish, but after seeing the new Fender Tony Franklin, I changed my mind. I'll upload some more photos this weekend.

Nice. Sims does some nice work. I hope they were easy to work with. I've heard things that I try to ignore. They do some great candy colors and everything I have seen from them has been top notch.

That bass had the nicest 2 tone sunburst finish, but yes this color is inspirational, I agree. The select P is one of the best Fender ever made. Modern compound radius neck. Never weighed it but I guess in the low 8lb range. The original pickup really is excellent too just not my flavor like the GZR it was very bright. Strings are GHS Pressurewounds.

Pat was nothing but terrific to work with. He was upfront with the costs and timeline to completion. Shipped the body to him end of August, he quoted me mid November (typically 13 weeks).
A few weeks ago I called him just to see how it was going and was thinking of going with the satin finish. He said no problem and there would be no additional charge but it would still be mid November, sigh...
Out of the "blue" literally he sent me a text of my bass on Oct 20th, he was shipping it out! I was very pleased at seeing the pics. I'm uploading those photos here too.

Awesome, great to hear. It looks great. I really like the satin with that color.

why? I mean, other than the fact that mine is signed by watt himself on the rear of the headstock, which I’d have to protect, I’d love a custom paint job and pickguard on the body

I do think the satin finish alone could save it from an expensive paint job, but it will get a new pickguard either way.
