old guys playing originals?

I'm 59 ( older but not old ) and out on the front lines every weekend and driving home at 2:00 AM.
I love it and I'm thankful my health allows me to continue doing this.
I always chuckle when I'm walking into a club with my bass and think about the fact that I was doing the same thing when I was 12.
I hope all of you are still playing in clubs when your pushing 60.
If I didn't have this I'd just be some 59 year old guy and that would be a drag.

Thank God for the ignore feature on this forum. Since I started tuning out the blow-hards, this forum is much more enjoyable. Unfortunately there are a few members that ruin every thread they get on. I'm not naming names, I'm just sayin'

As for this topic, at the local level, unless you or your band has spent decades developing a strong local following for your originals, if your over 50 I would advise you to look seriously at other options.

Nah, you're old.
So 37 doesn't get you into the "old club", but 59 does, but 59 isn't "old" it is "older"
Sounds like something a grouchy old fart would come up with...

You make a good point, however I question from a marketing perspective if anybody wants to see a 60 year old ( unless your Mick Jagger ) playing the ruthless rebel on stage. I would think it would look and come off as rather silly.

I used to have a gig in a house band, and we'd play anything under the sun including lots of requests. Once in a while, we'd pull out an old punk tune depending on the crowd. I ripped into Last Caress by the Misfits and had some guys in their 40s or 50s hop off their barstools and mosh along with some younger dudes. There were a couple of chicks who looked at us like we were crazy, but we didn't care because they didn't get it. We were having such a blast, we did some a couple more old Punk tunes. Those 'old' dudes were so enthusiastic, and they really thanked us for making their night, and I thanked them for making mine.
When I first started playing a couple of days or months or years ago...
I once pondered...if I make it to...60...
wouldn't that be freakin' awesome to be playing thee most epic tunes,
with all my years of experience..I thought, that would be one bad ass song.
If I ever packed it in; or joined a cover band, may the stage collapse beneath me.
To me, the whole point of doing this was to break out of that little box I came from,
not find a new box to crawl into.

This bass destroys target demographics.

True, but it does make it easier to skip entire posts. If some blowhole wants to hijack a thread and make it all about them, there is really nothing you can do.
