Not likely. My wishbass is VERY well constructed! The finish isn't great, no...but it is as solidly built of an axe I've EVER played.

And no, I seriously SERIOUSLY doubt that any $300 Fender knock-off could even come close to the sweet, sweet sound of my wish.

If you know anyone who has a wish, borrow it for a couple of tied. Shed a little wood on it, and THEN tell me what you think.

Uh-huh....Wishnevsky must've poured some chocolate syrup into yours then to make it sound so sweet. And I'm next in line to recieve this Wishbass once it ships again, so I'll be sure to post my personal experience. But I seriously SERIOUSLY doubt that any $300 Wishbass would be a smarter investment or a better bass than a Fender MIM Jazz-and I'm not even a Fender fan.

I think if you plan to shed a little wood on one you should be careful of splinters!!

heh, I shed a fair amount of follicular epidermis on that very Wishy...
it's like a giant razor blade facing the wrong way.

Woodshed might be the appropriate location though.

i've played 3 different wish basses, and countless mim 4 and 5 strings. my experience is the exact opposite.

Fair enough...that's your opinion...but you've never played MINE...when you get to Western Australia, look me up and come and have a play...don't forget to bring a couple of MIM Jazzes...after we've had a play, I'll take my solid curly maple and purpleheart wishbass and proceed to beat it mercilessly against those MIM jazzes...once they are reduced to sawdust, you'll have more room in your luggage on your trip back...

You'll notice from the photos that the G string is in the wrong position (too close to edge of fretboard. Well, when I received it, it was in the same position. The through-body hole is correct, however, so this took about 3.2 seconds to correct.

I've since tweeked the action by sanding down the bridge saddle. I've recently purchased an indi bridge system for $15 to replace the corian saddle, so that I can adjust each string exactly the way I want it (not installed it yet).

But as it is right now....It sounds sweet, and plays super sweet. By the way, the only amp I am playing it through at the time is a little 20W Peavey Microbass practice amp (my big rig is state-side). And the tone is PHENOMINAL.

Because wishbasses don't use a conventional bridge, rather they use a through-body anchor and corian bridge saddle held in place by string tension. In order to adjust action (I preferred mine a little lower) I had to sand down the bridge. It wasn't a major job, I had the action I wanted inside an hour.

I personally like the tone that this bridge system affords, because it transfers a LOT of string vibration to the instrument, so the harmonics are really quite rich. However, the system is really not all that workable from a "tweekability" standpoint. So my personal solution was to purchase an indi bridge system for $15 from customshopparts.com (via ebay) and change the bridge system.

It's simply a setup issue, nothing more.

Sorry man, The roll call for this experiment closed long ago. the bass has already been bought paid for, evaluated by some and sent on, dissapeared for a year, and has just resurfaced. I missed out on the buy in too, so I can feel your pain...

Well, now we know you're lying.

Ok I'll accept that the bridge might have had to be shaved down because of player prefrence as not everyone likes their action the same, but whats your excuse for a bass that comes with a poorly made nut?
