old "Let's buy a wish" thread

Just to update everyone (particularly tufnuts), I'm still waiting to get a ride to UPS :mad: I can't drive or really take public transportation for that matter, and my wife has been working extra hours the past couple of weeks, so we couldn't get there during operating hours. I couldn't get my family to take it during hours either :( I'm going to have my mother-in-law take it to them on Tuesday-it's been packed up and sitting in the living room for weeks. Sorry guys-it'll be off soon!

YES GOD. THE WISH IS HERE.


What a....instrument. Between the sloppy construction and the semi functioning electronics...man.

First impressions? Sure. It's gotta be a joke. The neck is HUGE. The edges are incredibly sharp, painful to a point. E and G strings are about 70% the volume of the A and D. Intonation???? What's that? This thing has more dead spots than a cemetary.

I'll play with it a few days...and give a better evaluation. After I build my hand strength up some more I guess...

Look...I own a wish and mine has some minor issues...but...this thing is AWEFUL!!!

Is this thing string through the end of the bass????? What's up with all those holes around the strap button????

Second eval.

Sounds passable if you pump up the gain w/ an overdrive pedal, and the compress the signal. Now strings are better balanced.

Speaking of balance, this thing should say louisville somewhere on it. The neck is waaaaay hugemonous. It pulls the neck downward, causing the body to raise up and rub the raw, sharp, wooden edge against your wrist. Good times had by all. The 3.4 octave neck is unique and unplayable at the same time.

Girlfriend thought it looked good initally. And I agree, the shape is neat...but about 40% finished. It's easy to tell what grit sandpaper was used on the body, because most of the sanding marks are still there. 0000 grit finishing steel wool????? What's that????

I will say one thing positive and mean it. It made me really appriciate all my other basses. My warmoth/SX hybrid (don't ask) severly smokes it.

Overall second eval opinion follows:

I PMed Midnight yesterday asking if he'd received the bass, and he said that tufnuts never contacted him :hmm:

He said that he no longer has time to try the bass out though, so it should go to the next person on the list, who happens to be.....Jared Morante! It's been a mere two and a half years since he started the thread :rolleyes: :D

Hey, thanks JT! I thought this thread was gone after Jared left.

To update everyone, tufnuts was the last person to have the bass, and hasn't responded to any of the several emails or PMs I've sent him. Which is really funny considering he said this:
TN: "Yes, I'm on the list to recieve it. I thought it'd be something fun, now I'm feeling very burned by this. It's another reason I don't visit/post on TB anymore."

me: Well, it was a person who is responsible, not TalkBass itself.

TN: "Oh please. Every member is a representative of TB. Even I. This was supposed to be a charitible thing in the end, giving the wish up to donate after it made it's rounds with those that contributed. Now that may not happen."
