I'm the youngest at 47 in my band. It's the first band I've ever been in. We're a hobby band but write our own songs with maybe 10% of any set list being covers. We gig at private parties and open mics. Fun stuff!

Older fellows still doing originals

Just turned 55, been playing for 28 years. Lucky enough to write, arrange, and preform about a dozen originals that are worked into the show of my current gig that's been going for 10 years.
The big problem is getting everybody together with enough time to record.

I'm pushing 60 and up until five years ago was in both an original hard rock band and an originals Jazz/rock/fusion/latin band.
Both have gone bye-bye and now with some older gents playing jazz standards.
Not writing a whole lot any more, but if an idea pops in I'll jot it down.
Come up with a lot of stuff just jammin' and practicing with the little Roland TR 505!

I'm the youngest at 46. Guitar player is 51 and drummer is 55. We do originals and are still having fun. In fact it's more fun now because I have no delusions about going pro.

Just rebooted an old project, The Stormy Weathermen. We play original surf/rock instrumentals. LOADS of fun! And I'm 59! Our first gig was last week. This video is one of the songs, "Surfer Roasta." We gig again tomorrow at the town festival. Fun fun fun!

My guitarist is sixty-somethin, and plays and writes some great stuff. Not gonna do spplits on stage, but who cares?
At 46, four out of the five bands I play with are actively writing, gigging and recording original music. It never occurred to me that there might be an expiration date on originals!

I'm in my 50s and play in an original band and I also have a tribute band. I enjoy them both. I also have a music production company that I started with a friend of mine several years ago. We have done music for some regional TV shows on Fox Sports, the History Channel, a PBS special, a German film production and were recently hired to do music for 3 TV and radio commercials. I will be playing bass on them.
some people seem to think so. i see no reason to stop playing originals. if you a reach a certain age and still think youre going to be a rock star you sure need a reality check, but that doesnt mean you cant still be creative.
48 here and in the midst of recording and writing the final few songs on a new album with one band and writing new live material ( hopefully to be recorded by end of summer) with another band , age is relative , only as old as you feel and really has nothing to do with creative output. If anything , age helps to mature your song writing a bit and gives you a hell of a lot more experience to draw on when telling a story
