Older fellows still doing originals

I'm 47 and the youngest in an original band. The guitarist is 48 and the singer is 50.

A sample can be found from the video link in my signature.

I'm 57, as is my rythman guitar. Our lead vocalist is 38, drummer 52 and lead guitar is 60.
We do only originals and would love to just get a freakin' paying gig. (I keep telling them to NOT take the free-bee's anymore but to no avail. )

Left a thriving originals band in DC, moved to STL, in another original act, I'm 38, most of the other fellas are in that range. Old band Geetar was 50+, sometimes had to talk him out of sounding too much like Tom Scholz, but otherwise, and excellent fellow :)

Holy Moly, that's unreal guitar tone (and playing).

But the tone...jeez...lemme guess, not a Peavey Bandit.

nah, the guitarist is playing a Fender Strat re-issue through a Marshall tube amp w/a Tubby Tone speaker. WAIT - didn't you want to know about the BASS? :) A Rob Allen Solid 4, probably soon to be up for sale.

I was way past 50 when I recorded this stuff in 2011:
Dirty South
Showed Me The Rose

The guy who ran the studio was high on Dirty South, but Showed Me The Rose got the biggest audience response in the last year, although with a different band. We were gonna record it again, but for non-musical reasons I left Asheville before we got around to it. Why do I keep doing it? Probably because I can't think of anything else to do.

I think as long as you're not trying to be something you're not, all is good.

I currently play with 2 cover bands and an original band. All are fun (classic hard and soft rock, blues, surf, etc.) and the originals band is more challenging. However, the cover bands get a lot more work, because people know the songs. It is a lot harder to get started and develop a following if you are doing all originals.
