The oldest bass i've ever played was my old bass teacher's DB from the late 1600's (I think). One of the most beautiful sounding instruments I have ever heard.......well......when he played it. It wasn't so great with me behind it haha.

What on earth did they use for amplification back then? I know tube radios were very popular then but outside of that I can't think of any other amplified instrument.
