Olympic White Bass Club!!!

I can't join many clubs theses days :(, so I'll throw my hat into the ring here.

If I recall correctly, Fender used two whiteish colors in the early/mid '70s. There was Blonde (which is what your bass looks like to me) and there was White (I don't even know if they used the name "Olympic White" in the catalog).

I'll have to look at my old catalogs (I think they're from '70 and '72) when I get home.

I'm not sure how I missed this club before.

It doesnt compare to a lot of the other basses in this thread but here's my SX SPJ-62 which was a 2008 Christmas gift from my wife-the FIRST serious bass-related item she has EVER given me!!

I've been told by guitar buddy of mine, that has worked in the biz for years,
that the Oly White guitars were all different in the '70s. The yellow varied in them all.
My '75 looked exactly like the #505 Olympic White in the color chart on page 61 of "THE FENDER BASS -AN ILLUSTRATED HISTORY" book (for those who have it).
I've always wondered where the name "Oly White" came from due to the yellow in it. I've seen quite a few Strats the same color. My bass looked nothing like photos I've seen of "Blonde" finishes ..... although after mine started to change color, it resembles Blonde (somewhat) to me comparing it to photos.

EDITED TO ADD: The #501 Blonde is darker, looks much like the Vintage White of the '90s.

I've just bought a Candy Apple Red one as well (don't dare post a picture here, though :(). I hope that when it arrives, it will sound as good as the Oly White one, as that has a 'better' tone (for my taste) than either my former '70s Fender or my Sadowsky Metro Vintage Jazz.

Sounds like a ridiculous claim, I know, but there it is :hmm:.
