So, I went to Guitar Center last night to get a box for a bass I sold on ebay, and of course, I went inside to look around also. My friend that works there goes upstairs to get me a box while I go rummaging around in the bass section. This being Guitar Center, they have their normal selection of basses there. I walk around for about 15 minutes and then I see it. The first thing that catches my eye is the SALE tag on her. I pick it up and give it a thorough look over to see if I can find anything wrong with it. After a good 10 minute look over, I come to the conclusion that she is pristine. My friend comes over and I ask him what the deal is with this bass. He looks it up in the computer and comes back with "Man, the case is included with it for that price".

By now you all are probably saying "get on with it and tell us what the big deal is all about." Well here's the big deal.

What I found was a BRAND NEW 2008 FENDER AMERICAN JAZZ BASS for................are you all ready for this............................$649.99 with the brand new Fender flight case. No,you didn't read that wrong, I did say $649.99. After tax it cost me a grand total of $670.00 out the door.

I believe it!! my SO-Gegatso- and I, went to GC last night to pick up my Ibanez Mikro short scale-bass (sweeeeeet!) I had special ordered and they had the same Fender there as yours. He had already played the Sunburst with Rosewood neck and loved that one, but was totally agog over the maple neck on this one! so, he played it, loved it, but had decided against it since it was listed at $1149... we had them hold it for us while we went to dinner- discussed it there, and I called the store to see what they could give us on it - asked for a buck-50, and the guy said "there is NO negotiating on that bass whatsoever - no way". I said "too bad, we are getting a great deal on an acoustic-electric Taylor 214CE at the north store- so we'll just go back there and get that. He tells me to hang on a bit..comes back a minute later and says "I can actually do the Fender for $650 w/the case out the door".
We sat there stunned for a minute with our jaws on the floor- then I said "We'll take it!" (who wouldn't?!) and we were close so got there a few minutes later, and it was done. Rang up as 549.99 for the Fender, 99.00 for the case.
We are both still in shock. Wasn't going to post the story since we thought no one would believe it- but since it happened to you too-Congrats! - and we should start our own club! :-D :hyper: MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Yep, after seeing the original post, I called my GC and asked if they were doing this deal. The salesman was skeptical, but he checked the computer anyway. Much to his surprise the black/maple Jazz was priced at $550. He said "Woah, that's below our cost!" No one in the store knew about the deal! I went down and the bass was a unplayed and factory fresh. I passed on the case (another $99) because I always just use a gig bag.

THanks Navybass for posting! I would of missed this deal if it weren't for you!

I just missed one of these by minutes @ my local GC. The saleman told me it sat there for 2 days @ $599 new and I walked in just after one sold.

I played a couple of other 08 Jazzes they had there at normal price and I must say, I was very impressed. Fit, finish, feel, setup was better than any new MIA Standard Jazz I've picked up in recent years.

So I must concure with the rumours. New new '08 Fenders are superior to the previous ones.
