Idk what to do with it but I'll double her money and give you $40 for it. I'll probably get it playing good and give it to a neighborhood kid that wants to learn bass.

TalkBass, @lug just gave us better marriage advice than every season of Dr Phil combined.
My wife and kids have bought probably 3/4ths of the new basses I own in the last 20 years or so. Usually they ask, sometimes they surprise!
It's either that model or the same design with a slightly different headstock for a different store brand.
Either way, if it sets up well and has a decent feeling neck, it would be a GREAT platform for upgrades.
Play it at a gig just once, when she's there. My bet is that you'll get some that night.
Keep it! Fretless would be cool, unless the action is great. In that case I'd make it the travel or office bass...

Put on New strings, set it up. Make it the best it can be without pouring money into it. Got a bass with flats in the arsenal? No?….do that. Labella low tension flats. Nice easy strings to play on. Great Motown sound.
Don’t convert it to fretless….too much work, and you can get a Thomann fretless to your house in 3 days for under $200 bucks if you wanna mess with fretless.
Don’t put in a new preamp. Buy a Sadowsky pedal pre instead and use it on ALL your passive basses. No soldering required! If its already got a pre onboard…leave it. Don like the onboard pre? Bypass it.
That looks like a sweet bass to be honest. I’d give a go for a year or so. Who knows, she may have found you your next favorite bass.

I'm a sentimental pack rat and if my special lady saw a bass and thought of me, I'd have to keep it. I have a '62 AVRI that tires my hands out for whatever reason that I've kept as it was a college graduation gift from my grandma. I was doing originals sets in conjunction with a Zeppelin II full album cover set at the time. It sounds great, but even with the same strings and exactly the same setup specs it tires my hands out way faster than my modern American Standard J so it doesn't get the attention it deserves. I couldn't bear to part with it though.
Plus one on this. New strings, new setup and see if a high school or middle school music program could use it or if there are and kids the music teacher knows that are in need

IIRC, they were made in Vietnam. The first run had a matte finish, while the second run was gloss finished. I had one around 2004 or so. I think I paid around $170 new.
Beater practice bass: keep it as a grab-n-go practice instrument so as not to play your main basses and conserve string life for the main. Practice/Play it unplugged around the house, when watching TV, grilling in the backyard, on the toilet, whatever, etc. I have a beat-to-smithereens bass myself just for this purpose.....the fact that she bought it and sees you playing it is a big plus
