OMG What did she buy!

Put on New strings, set it up. Make it the best it can be without pouring money into it. Got a bass with flats in the arsenal? No?….do that. Labella low tension flats. Nice easy strings to play on. Great Motown sound.

Don’t convert it to fretless….too much work, and you can get a Thomann fretless to your house in 3 days for under $200 bucks if you wanna mess with fretless.

Don’t put in a new preamp. Buy a Sadowsky pedal pre instead and use it on ALL your passive basses. No soldering required! If its already got a pre onboard…leave it. Don like the onboard pre? Bypass it.

That looks like a sweet bass to be honest. I’d give a go for a year or so. Who knows, she may have found you your next favorite bass.

All of this.

If after trying it and you hate it, but want to keep it to keep the natives peaceful then the best thing to do is to remove the Mrs favorite picture off the wall and hang the bass up there.
Or at least in the most prominent place in the house where she will hate it, and make a big fuzz of how good it looks there as well.
It might prevent any further stray $20 basses coming home with her.
(Take it down once a week and play death metal once a week as well at full volume for her)

I feel like I should address everyone's comments, opnions and concerns!
1) Yes I have a great wife & yes she is treated like a queen.
2) It was awesome of her to think of me and buy the bass & no matter what I do with it she would continue to look for basses.
3) Yes she has sisters, no you really don't want one.
4) Yes, I have a daughter who is like her mom. No you can't have her, but thanks for asking.
5) Thanks for introducing me to Joe Dart, I'm now a fan!
6) The bass will get a non-pro (me) setup this week with DR Black Beauties I have laying around.
7) If I love it after that it will go in my lil' bass family.
8) Maybe get Joe Dart to autograph it (@ a concert twos bird theory) & sell it on TB for big $$$$$
9)My son the ( unemployed) drummer will claim it.( he thinks he is also an accomplished out of work bassist)
10) Worst case scenario it will be given to a worthy bass student of a friend that teaches music at a high school & gives private lessons in a lower income area.
11) And for the encore, NO you can't have it!
