One Strap per bass or one for multiple?

Some of my cases won't accept the guitar with the strap on without a bunch of altering on my part, which I'm not going to do. Plus, because I'm an anal-retentive OCD little thing, a lot of my straps are chosen to match a particular bass and I don't inter-change a lot. So my straps and basses are not kept attached during transport.

4 straps total between 6 instruments, each is set up for the playing height of the instrument.

Schaller locks on my P, same on the J and another parts project (all 3 electric basses share a Planet Waves 3" strap with internal padding). Have another PW3 on the Tacoma.

My strat has Schallers with a Souldier strap and I have a vintage weave on my acoustic guitar. I also have a rainbow Ernie Ball strap and a brown one that was given to me with my Mother's acoustic, but I keep both with it in the case.

All my axes have their own cheap strap. Most of them I got for free. The only one I paid good money for was a Comfort Strapp to defeat neck dive.

I use those little black rubber washers to keep the straps on.

For what it's worth, my rig so far is...

1 strap per instrument, so each bass, each guitar gets its own strap....

I sold my SR500, kept the strap, and that went on to the SX Hawk in Candy Apple Red, so I have a tan 2.5" Levys Suede strap with a black Celtic ish cross on a candy apple red strat copy. It kind of works due to the maple neck.

My Yamaha (Actually my BILs but in the last year I have played it more than him...) acoustic guitar has the SX poly strap that came with my Ursa 1. It works great for that application, and was a miserable strap for a bass...

My Squier Affinity Jazz, and Ibanez SR480 both have Guild Ballgove leather straps. Nice and long. Those are the only straps I actually have to choke up to get the height out of man land.

My SX Ursa 1, and soon to be SX Ursa 2 (4 and 5 strings respecxtively) hae Perrin basic black leather 2" straps. They came in super rigid. But some massaging with cocounut oil softened them up really nicely.

I have one 2.5" Levys suede strap left over as a spare, it is hunter green and tan that used to be on the SR480, it looks good there, but on that bass the Guild is way more comfortable.

All my straps except the acoustic, are held in place with Grolsch type flip top beer bottle cap gaskets from my local brewers supply.

I never considered a collection of 50 + instruments (where the heck do you store that many basses?), I guess transferrable straps make sense...

In MY circumstances, a strap is in my perspective, part of the instrument. And I have cheap (Perrin basic straps at $9.99) and expensive, relatively speaking (I don't see them for sale anywhere any more, but they were retailing for $65.00 per last year). Absolutely the Guilds are WAY nicer than the Perrins, but the Perrins work great, they just need some break in...

For the most part, I use a fender washer and a deck screw to permanently attach the strap and strap button to a bass. It's one-per by default.

All of my basses (5) have a strap. I leave them on all the time. I keep them secure with a rubber washer. I use Levy 3 inch straps.

I used to have dunlop straplocks on all my basses and took the strap off and stored it after every gig. I just found that to be a hassle when I started to doing more gigs.

The rubber washers keep the straps secure, and I don't see a down side to keeping the straps on all the time.

This is pretty much how I do it also. A strap for each bass (Mono Betty or Get'm Get'm 3" 'plethers'). I used to use Schaller strap locks, but sold them all years ago. I've been using the neoprene washers for years. Cheap, do the job as well as strap locks, and simple. (Below is a Strat, but you get the idea.)

I have 3 basses all have their own strap that stays on them. a plain black leather 2.5" strap on my black and purple P/J bass, and a tan tooled leather 3" strap on my natural hollow body bass, and just for shruggs and grins a 2.5" black cotton strap on my upright

I have 1 per instrument, but stick to a single 3" strap when playing out because of the wireless transmitter attached to it.

I have at least one strap for every bass, plus a couple of spares. My main straps are Levi's padded 4" or 4.5" which I have three. I have two Epiphone basses (El Capitan & Jack Casady) that require the strap locks be reversed on the neck end due to the strap button being in the center of the neck heel instead of on the upper horn. I use a Mono strap with Dunlop's on the Casady. the rest of my straps all have Schaller's.

Then I have a collection of old straps laying around that I use at home practicing - if all my regular straps aren't handy.

One strap for all my basses, a 20 year old Levy's M4 black leather strap, with Straploks. I do have a backup without Straploks, some padded strap that's not as wide as the Levy's one.

I'll go ahead and be in the minority with one strap for all my instruments. Just replaced my Fender vintage style with a Souldier Skittles strap, so I guess one main, and a back up.

I have seen other people here who seem to swap straps between basses, it seems to me easier to keep a strap on the instrument at all times so you can simply grab and play. So how do you prefer to set up one strap per instrument or 1 strap for several instruments?

Schaller straplocks are great just make sure you put them on right, and every once in a while make sure the nuts tight. I have been jammin Bass for 32 years and I use them on all my Basses and never had a problem. After you put them all on your Basses, there all the same, just use one really nice strap that can snap on all your Basses. No sence in more than one strap. Takes a couple seconds and your done, click click.

Both of my basses have their own straps. The J copy has a regular leather Sick strap in black, while the Rivoli has an older style soft leather strap with a larger leather pad for the shoulder. Inside of that one is suede or split leather, and the grip provided by the wider pad and the unfinished inside combat neck dive every effectivelty. I use Dunlop strap locks on both, and neither bass can be put to bed with the bulky strap locks on the end- not enought room in the case.

For my Strats and other electrics, I have leather straps (Sick and other manufacturers). My 1976 hard tail natural still has the original strap buttons, so I don't want to put strap locks on it. When that one goes back into tis case, the strap lies underneath folding back on itself as close to the headstock as possible. The others have strap locks and don't fit in the cases.
