One too many 8x10s??

I love this type of excess. There used to be a guy intown that made his own basses with out of scraps and load them with individual jazz pickups horizontally, one for each string. $20 worth of wood and glue and $600 worth of electronics.

They didn't sound good to my ears but the guy really had fun with it and I suspect it kept him busy and out of trouble.

And that's what it's about, isn't it? Having fun.

I'm pretty sure Jucifer are enjoying what they're doing. I bet if they weren't, they'd stop doing it.

Huh, I guess I'm the only one who digs the distorted camera mic over the actual recording.

Check out Electric Wizard...

Sorry, I don't hear any distorted camera mics in the Electric Wizard clip you provided, particularly on the drums which are completely clean. The distortion on all the other instruments including the vox is smooth and pleasing to the ear, not at all like shite camera mic overload. So, yeah, I guess you are likely the only one who digs crappy distorted camera mic clips; actually, it just occured to me I should introduce you to a like-minded friend I have. Thanks for the Electric Wizard, that was great.

Obimark, kudos for putting up instead of shutting up, particularly because, as Gazelle put it: "Especially in context of the post internet bitch-about-everything world". If "the groove has left that building", then people would not be going to bars for that music and you wouldn't be getting the gigs. Sounded good, dug the "Cheap Sunglasses". I can't play very well myself, so take this for what it is, yet more Internet advice from someone not qualified to dispense it: if you want to get better at off-the-cuff solos, as you say, then you have to practice more off-the-cuff solos. ;)

Embrace diversity people, it'd be a boring world without something for everyone, the full range from Abba to Zappa.

Thanks! I appreciate it- I only play (2) short solos in our sets, but we play a lot of bass heavy songs, like Working Man, I'm YOur captain, Stranglehold etc. And being in a power trio, my bass is very audible, so I love it! We get some dancers on many of our songs, so there must be some groove after all (or at least as much as three white dudes playing can muster up. ;-)
