onstage FAIL

BTW... I'm going to plug the hats... hopefully it's legal... There's a Swedish guy in a little town called Staples Minnesota that makes them for me... Barmah Hats.. Great guy... Fun to talk to... and they can make hats for guys with heads the size of a watermelon.

I thought Barmah's were a secret! Shh!!!

I've got a couple of 'em - great hats. Even talked my wife into getting a kangaroo skin one...

There's one song that my band does that I use crib notes for. The song is not particularly difficult, nor are the chord changes challenging - it's just for some reason I cannot commit this song to memory. It's not like I'm subconsciously putting up a mental block on it (it's a nice song and I don't mind playing it), but we don't do it often and, for whatever reason, it does not stick. It's Rico Blanco's "Your Universe." When my wife is in the audience she always knows that song will be next because I pull over the music stand.

I really wanted to go for the Croc teeth on a foldaway... but I was afraid it'd get stolen when I took it off to tear down... They are fantastic hats though.... I ended out with a Squashy Bronco... I mAjor upgrade from the Camo trucker hat.... now I just have to lose the white nike monarchs.

Nope... (and I had to look up porkies). He's actually affiliated with the Australian company, but I could be wrong about the swedish part... He might be Norwegian, but with a name like Juerg Siegrist who knows for sure.
From the website
"Over 30 years, Barmah Hats has built a reputation for innovative design and the toughest outdoor head wear. Committed to using only the finest materials and handcrafting each hat with care in our own production in Minnesota, USA and Melbourne, Australia. Barmah Hats has developed the most versatile and durable range of outdoor hats on the market." If you take the /AU off your web link, you'll find some of the best Australian leather hats are put together by a Swede/Norwegian in Minnesota. :) Nice little warehouse/assembly facility... with the meanest gaurd dog I've ever come across.... anyway the meanest chihuahua...

info - Barmah Hats, Inc.
Thanks, I stand corrected. But I am curious about his claim to make them for you. Anyways they are a great product and I have one :-)

I never understood why people sight read live instead of just learning the songs

Most folks that sight read onstage are actual professionals.

If you need to play 40 songs at Tuesday’s gig, then another 30 at Wednesday’s, then 50 on Thursday, only to never play them again, it’d be crazy to try and learn them.

That’s what life looks like to a huge swath of the “professional” musician demographic.

I admit I'm guilty... but my cheat notes are off stage, I have a wide brim hat that casts a shadow over my eyes, and outdoors I wear sunglasses so no one knows I'm a cheating whore that's old enough to have short term memory problems....

As for bare feet... never... but I'm guilty of a different sin in those regards.....View attachment 4286955
