open mic solo bass- does this work?

has anyone had the cajones to pull this one off? show up at a bar or coffee shop, plug your electric into the PA and do some solo bass stuff?

I'm curious to hear if people have tried this out!

I've seen it done, its quite impressive and it was a welcome break from all the covers of wonderful tonight, the audience seemed to really enjoy it, I've never had the stones to try it.

I have a couple of compositions that are written entirely for unaccompanied bass. So, yeah. It would definitely work. I've never had a chance to try, but I definitely would, were the opportunity provided.

I saw a solo bass busker on the Barcelona metro last year, mostly tapping stuff on a five string. It was all very tasteful and generally well-received from what I saw. He was very good though.

I've only done it a few times, all were slightly under 5 min though.Makes me want to go buy a loopstation, program some drumloops and go out and do a 30 min set or so. I am SERIOUSLY considering this very soon.

If i was drunk, i'd do it. For some reason i can come up with riffs on the spot. Catchy riffs. After about 10minutes though, it'd sound the same.

In fact, anything solo I don't like seeing. Very much an ensemble person. Something about a group that is able to lock in and glue together is more exciting than seeing a single person play on stage. On that same vein, it's why I don't go head over heels for people like Jaco or Wooten, but will always focus attention to bassists who ADD to the sound instead of wanting to BE the sound.

i always thought it'd be pretty cool to see someone with an upright playing a bassline and banging on the bass for drums and then rapping along with it.

done it many times... You just have to remember who your audience is.
