Here it is, but I haven't updated it in MONTHS, will do so soon. This winter SUCKED for getting much bass building done, but I'm creeping along oh..... so..... slowly......

Thread 'The Hossenfeffer V Bass Build'

So.... the builders itch has returned. Thinking about some kind of Rickenbacker 4005 mashup, not a strict 1:1 copy. I always thought the upper horn of the 4005 looked a little... bulbous.. or something. The 4005XC is cool too, but I think I'll land at something that incorporates some of the details and proportions of the Rimini Italia Bass 4, from which I shamelessly stole the "F-Hole" for a previous build. I may go with the Ric cat-eye design instead, we'll see how it looks. I'll try a Ric style "hooked" cresting wave upper horn too. Looking to to ruthlessly exploit the TB Hive Mind on...

Considering this was a basket case - I'm using some unorthodox materials as far as luther-ing goes. Namely epoxy and JB Weld. I want it rock solid like a solid body. I contoured the beam interface as close as possible and epoxied them and filled every gap with JB Weld. When attaching the table, it will be epoxied to the perimeter and to the beams - it isn't going to budge when I'm done with it.

Next is addressing the neck-block. Once that's done and the table is fine-tuned fitted - I'll attach the neck and work on preliminary set-up. I will start designing the details but will need to wait for the Hofner-style control plate before determining its location.

No, but growing up in the Midwest I regularly watched and enjoyed Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, The Beverly Hillbillies and Hee Haw. :D

I am retired from years of decorative arts/restoration work and am well aware of all these patching products. I once worked for an affluent DIY'r who was using that product to patch cracks/low areas in an industrial cement floor. He was the kind of 'know-it-all' that you didn't correct or point out it was not going to work. I was doing other things while he was applying it and after a few days he realized it was the wrong product and I watched him remove it. He was paying for the work I did so I just looked the other way. :)
