Opeth

Hmmm, this thread has been quiet for a month? I was fortunate enough to travel from WV to NYC last April to see 1 of their 6 special 20th anniversary shows, the dvd was filmed 2 days before my show and I realised they are all wearing the exact same clothing at my show they had on from the show 2 nights before lol They were phenomenal, Martins bass playing was wonderful, and the 3 hour setlist standing right in front of the stage plus standing in line early for 2 hours made me feel pain in my feet that I had never felt before :]

I didn't read the whole thread. I just thought I would add I love Opeth.

I almost think it is a trajedy that people think they are overrated! Because I actually think the opposite :-)

My favorite one was The Roundhouse Tapes because it helped me break the barrier of the crappy recording quality of the old stuff. Other that Blackwater Park and "MAYH"... Aside from the whole discography.

Opeth have been one of my fav bands ever since they released Still Life.

Mendes is a great player. His less is more approach to playing is the hallmark of a mature player IMO.

However, i'm not a huge fan of his tone. It sounds good on recordings, especially on Ghost Reveries and Damnation but all four times i've seen them live the bass sound was muddy and indistinct. His J-bass should have plenty of treble and high mids set flat so he must roll the treble off and boost the bass to get his sound out of that bass.

Comes down to what you like I guess.

Can't wait for the next album :D
