Opinions 2x12 Avatar Basson

Didn't see a thread that encompasses what I'm looking for, though honestly I only went back four pages so perhaps someone can point me to the right direction else...

I'm fooling around with the idea of getting a 2x12 cab. After over ten years of using my Genz Benz 410XB I think I've decided to try out some other options. Weight isn't a huge issue, the dimensions are more important to me and of course the sound but since I can't try out either does anyone have any opinions on either one? I'm not looking for one of those 'blah blah rules threads' I'm looking for actual reviews and observations, tone coloring/faithfulness to whichever amp/bass, etc kind of stuff.

To clarify I'm tinkering with the idea of an Avatar 2x12 or a Basson 2x10.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Compairing the Avatar 212 to acmes it has a scooped sound. I have to dial in Mids for definition. However I think it will do very nice for "filling in the bottom end." Even though my sig says I have one for sale, I am going to try it with my soon to arrive SVT II I can let you know more next week about that pair.

So the avatar can put out the SPL for a loud drummer and guitar player. It doesn't cut through, it sits under their sound and does not try to fight for sonic space. I enjoy this about it. You can turn up and not be copmellin anyone else to turn up.

However I have not been able to get a good mid adjustment with the basic eq part of m svppro to boost the high/mid and make it more like and acme cab.

That helps. I was actually worried that the Basson would have a scooped sound, I didn't think the Avatar would though.

Well...I've played through a Basson 2X10. That thing is almost as big as a 4X10. It's very heavy...and I'm pretty sure it's made from MDF. If you're looking for an even remotely road worthy cab...look elsewhere. I know you said size is more of an issue than weight as well.

With that said...I though it sounded pretty good. Deep lows for a 2X10. I was even thinking about buying one myself, then I read too many bad things about them.

I've never played through an Avatar of any kind, so I can't comment on them.

I've read a few things here about not liking the construction. I'm not familar with MDF at all so I don't know about that. It is smaller then my current 4x10 but then again my Genz is larger then most 4x10s.

Really I've always loved Bag End but you need a sep cab for the lower freq and they're hard to find for sale these days, the old ones at least.

I think perhaps the Basson might be too much focus on low end.
