I think the SPB-1 is the split-style P bass pickup like it should be. I also have an Antiquity 1 split style P bass and a SC style P antiquity, the latter is a bit lame. The former is actually brighter than the SPB-1.
The quarter pounders are not for everybody, and often require drastic tone control. I don't think it is a good idea to use a QP as your first attempt at Seymour Duncan.
