Opinions

I'm kinda obsessed with this bass. It's kinda so ugly it's cool and I'm really liking the Haymaker pickup tone. Am I crazy? (Probably) Thoughts? Opinions?

Anyways, here's a tone demo:

Multiscale: I think @gr8avocado brought up a good point in post #7 about ergonomics with this design (and he has first-hand experience since he owned a Meteora). If you look at the location of the bridge, it appears to me to be farther forward than what I'm used to seeing. I have a P bass and a J bass, and both have the bridges positioned all the way back to the edge of the body. Having the bridge farther forward as shown on the Meteora, and maintaining a 34" scale length from bridge to nut, that pushes the nut farther away from the player making for a longer reach in the lower fret area. It also adds to neck dive. Plus, as was pointed out by another poster, the upper horn is relatively short, so that is gonna make neck dive even worse. My recommendation is for you to play a Meteora before dropping coin.

Oh, and I agree with the other posters who said that the headstock shape just doesn't go with the body shape. IMO, it looks like a misfit. 🤷‍♂️

Love Ultra basses. Have both J and Ps. However, to paraphrase Frank Costanza “This bass…This is not my kind of bass”

It’s always interesting when Fender tries to not live in the past, like this Performer from the 80’s…

But that’s not where the public wants them.

Yeah, Backlund vibes, but I picked up one of these Lace Helix basses(the brown neck-through) at their warehouse garage sale when they just wanted to concentrate on pickups, and this is my favorite “futurama” look…

Since Lace and Fender had something of a relationship, I wonder if that older design got adapted.

Yep, they put the bridge and neck pocket in wrong place
I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to, both seem OK to me. In fact, taken separately, the body shape is quite elegant, and to my mind it works well.

I do think that this is one of those times where Fender could have been a bit more adventurous with the headstock shape. The standard headstock seems a little out of place, and I think the bass would have benefited visually from a shape that took its cue more from the body shape, perhaps in a matching color.
