Opportunity for a Bassman 135

Saw an ad on CL this morning for a Fender Bassman 135 with the 2x15 cab. Says all new tubes and caps. vinyl covers included. Pictures show it to be very clean with no rips, tears, or beer stains.

Asking $800.

What say ye?

I know I would like it. Love me some tubes. And I had bassman in the old days. I'm more curious about whether the price is good.

That's fair. Heads are usually around the 500 mark, and 300 for the cab is fair. Not asking too much, not asking too little, pretty much right on. I would still try to negotiate down some, maybe see if you can get it for 700 or 750 if they really need the money. But I always try and get money off.

I love those amps and cabs, big bassman tone fan.

Thanks. I sent the seller a response saying I want to see it. Waiting to hear back. He says it is a 75.

Nope, it stays too clean, but it's a dope bass rig.

I use one, more than enough power for the venues I play. I am building my own custom 2x15 with Kappa 3015's that handle more volume and better low end.

I would agree. The Bassman 50 or the original 25 are good guitar amps. For me, I don't need more than what a 135 will do. I gigged for years with a V4B and 8x10 and other times with a Super Bassman.
When I first started, I was using a Silvertone that was IIRC 25 watts.

They are usually using one of the 50s. And I agree it is a great guitar amp. The famous Marshall was nothing more than an overdriven Bassman.

Also I run a pair of Faital Pro 15PR400's with a Peavey MX, which is kind of like their take on the MusicMan HD 135, which is a cousin of the Bassman 130...

Needless to say, with the right cab, an amp in this bracket does a lot!

Those Bassman 135 are great heads! I use to run ONE with two EA CXL112 cabs from 2003-2006. I say get it!

The bit that has a hard time keeping up in a modern context is the cab. If you have the space, it's nice to have the set. Big volume requirements would be better met if you have a newer, more efficient cab - but if the price is good then the sound will probably make you smile through lots of cabs!

Years ago I did a show in a small venue using a borrowed 70's 50 watt Bassman 4x10 combo and late 70's P bass. I don't care what anyone says - with a pick, that sound was beautiful. It was cranked of course!

I think that the price is fair if the condition of the amp is good. Some of these amps have a lot of rust on them, a consideration when pricing.

I had a 135 Twin Reverb, bought it new in 1977. One amp that I wished I had never sold.

Agreed. Best sound ever, just not practical and doesn't have enough headroom, at least for the type of stuff I do. But a 135...mmmmm....also I would search Bassman 135 because I recall some threads on here about significant differences between Bassman 50/100 and 135..maybe someone could speak to that.

Had a 135 and a MM HD150 at the same time, and I much preferred the HD150, tonally speaking. When I replaced the 6L6 tubes with SED Winged C 6l6's, I liked it even more.
