I like the tone profile. I would definitely buy this.
Clean Orange sound is a great one. I'm still downsized but you never know!
I have the class AB 4-Stroke 500 -- bigger and heavier, obviously, but solid-sounding and solid-feeling. Compared to a Thunderfunk TF550B, a little more open, top and bottom, and less compressed in the lows. TFunk has a better feature set, though.
I've not played the Terror Bass -- the only other Orange Bass amps I've encountered are the 200 Watt tube heads, which always struck me as pretty compressed and dirty, but maybe that's just the way folks play them. The 4-Stroke, at any rate, seemed a significant departure. I was surprised that I liked it, but I do.
This amp seems to be in the same vein, with a simplified EQ. I'd have to play it, though, to see if it matched (or came close) to the clarity and grunt of the 4-Stroke.
With the amplifiers 4Ω minimum it holds no interest for me.
Yes, I do wish Orange would have made the new version of the Terror Bass, and this new one, stable at least down to 2.67 ohms. That way I could add a 3rd OBC112 if I really wanted to...
2 ohms would be better, obviously, but I’d personally settle for 2.67.
I don't currently have a rig that requires going below 4 Ohms, but I do consider one from time to time. Particularly where amplifier power is limited, this would be handy. Power limitations aside, one potential advantage of an amp that will do 2.67 (or 2 Ohms) is the ability to use a larger 4 Ohm cab with a smaller 8 Ohm one -- or, of course, three smaller cabs -- again, not my current situation, but it does allow for a more flexible setup.
This being a class D amp, I am curious what Orange are using for a power module.
