Orange "O" Bass?? Opinions?

Oh, c'mon......how can so many people dislike the color "Creamsicle"??!!! I think it's distinctive, and for all I care, it could have had jazz, mudbucker or SCPB pickup(s) on it, and I would still like it. Actually, I'm considering finding a used one, and possibly fitting it with either a leftover Peavey T40 humbucker, or a Guild "Bisonic" repop. I think that would definitely put it in an individual class. Aside from color, that is!

I like it, but it wouldn't be in my top 25 list of basses to buy...it wouldn't even be in my top 5 orange basses.

The samples sound nice. I like the look of it despite the Pickguard which seems like an afterthought. I like the bolt on neck. Not that I am a fan a particular fan of shortscale, but I think if this were short scale and if it had a better pickguard that it would be a popular choice.

Well I finally did it, pulled the trigger on the Orange O bass. I've always loved Orange Amps and since I need a back up bass while my 72' is getting a fresh refin I figured at this price it was worth the roll of the dice. I'm a p bass nut and like many I've owned a million of them from the mim and Mij's to the Mia's(lots of good ones and some dogs), currently I've got my two favorites a 2012 hog hand stained fsr, and a 72' A neck weighing 8.6...the point being the tables were set for me to open the box and say well this was a stupid move! Haha Instead I opened the box and literally said woah! Granted I never ever buy new gear so opening a mint never played instrument was pretty cool for me, but that's still a check in the o bass pros box, you get a brand new bass for under 5 bills!! I went with the sunburst one and like many I thought the pics of these basses seemed a little odd possibly forced, like the pickguard shape, but when I saw it in person I was very impressed...this thing is sexy! The craftsmanship and finish seems far superior than what you'd expected at this price range. It's light and feels like a really nice guitar if that makes sense, the body is very slim, felt slimmer and less bulky than most basses I've played. The curves are sleek and it just felt super comfortable to hold and play.
I've only had it a day so I havent really gotten to put it through its paces tone wise but based on some time playing it through my Ampeg scr w/ headphones it sounds excellent and versatile. I'm extremely excited to slap some flats on it and run through my torpedo CAB and Broughton pedal line up to get a true gage of its capabilities. But at this point I'm very pleased with the purchase. This isn't to say it won't work its way out to the classifieds section once my 72' is back in action but at this price I might be able to justify the 3rd bass in the arsenal. I'll post again once I've spent more time on how it actually sounds

Well, since you asked for opinions, I will say this, I think they missed the mark in that there enough P basses in the world but very few, if any, are short-scale. I was really jazzed when I first saw them but that went to meh very quickly when I discovered it was a 34" scale. Got a P certainly don't need this. Probably would have bought if it was a 30" scale FWIW, but, oh well . . .

I picked one up and played it for a bit, average build quality, it felt cheap. I wasn't inspired enough to plug it in. There are far better choices out there fo $450.

The bass comes in a nice brown sunburst with white binding around the top of the body's edge. there is also a black one with binding. the bass sounds and plays great...the pickup is based off of a 57 P bass...I would have preferred the 62 as it has all that P bass growl. The neck is very fast...the tuners are smooth. the fit and finish equal any bass under $2000.00.
The bridge is an Omega BadAss clone so the sustain goes on forever. I forgot the name of the wood but it sounds good...and fender uses it for several of their newest Strats as it is light but the fibers are dense so you get a maple like high end (like a Les Paul) The body style is very close to a mid 60's Hohner Club Bass. The neck is a standard 34'' .
It quite simply plays great and sounds like P bass...I am sure on record you could not tell it is not a Fender. I intend to update the pots etc. and put in the Duncan vintage 62
The coolest thing is everyone wants to know all about it. Best of all I get the P bass sound without looking like 80 percent of the players that play the clubs.
At the price getting one (to go with my old jazz) was a no brainer.

Has everyone else ignored the fact that it does in fact also come in two other colours? I noticed that it ships with two pickguards as well, which is a nice feature. I see the black one in my future with a tort pickguard... Maybe I'll have to find a cream pickup cover too.

I've had a chance to play mine more now and I think it sounds excellent. Pretty versatile, you can get aggressive rock tones as you'd expect out of it but I'm also having no problem getting some sweet smooth heavy lowend reggae tones from it.

It's funny through all the years of playing guitar as a 2nd instrument I've owned a bunch of Orange gear and guitarist usually seem to always think highly of it, here in the bass world seems like Orange stirs up some less than positive feedback. They've certainly had some odd plays here over the last bunch of years between the Iso cabs and this bass but all the Orange gear I've had including the (dare I say it) Iso cabs performed very well...but to each their own. And I definitely don't want to start a debate on that cab, there's plenty of old ones covering that.
Edit: I should add I'm not defending there price points, I've only ever bought Orange gear used since there prices for new gear is out of my league, but this o bass to me still seems a good value at this price
I did do a quick search at guitar center online to see what basses live in the $400-500 zone and I haven't played or owned them all but the ones I have played while not bad instruments I wouldn't choose over this o bass. I did also notice this price range seems to have a lot of odd looking basses, so I guess the o bass found its home haha

Lets see ....I checked every square inch not a flaw to be found in either fit or finish. The hardware is heavy duty...and I know my chrome...it's triple plated. So? Define cheap?
Please list these better basses so I can check them with equal scrutiny.
