Orange Terror Bass - Discontinued?

I was wondering about this when I noticed on American Musical Supply and Musician's Friend that they no longer had the Terror Bass 1000 listed. AMS still had the 500 listed there the last time I looked. I posted an inquiry about it over at the Orange forum, but no one ever replied. I've never had an issue with my Terror Bass 1000 and love it. I hate to see it go, but I suppose that's the way it is sometimes. I wonder if they'll come out with another 1000 watt model?

The OB1 sounds like a great idea. I think the Terror Bass, in a world where everybody has gotten tiny and small, just didn't stand out. The OB1 offers something different, a compact 500W amp that's not Class D yet portable.

but wider & deeper, and twice the weight, is not as compact or portable...it is good looking though!

it doesn't appear to have the full power into 4ohms option of the TB's

Yeah, it does look cool, and sounds pretty good in the demos, I'll give it that. I'm still happy with my TB 1000, though. I will admit, I wouldn't mind some extra EQ options on certain occasions, but it's a very portable powerhouse that works very well for me.

It also seems like you're paying the same price as the TB 500, but getting less features. There aren't any pre amp tubes and it doesn't have the portability of the TB amps, with their carry bags, which by the way is totally handy. I like the fact that I can just sling the thing over my shoulder to take to a gig. Less trips involved, plus a storage pouch for the cables.

I like my BT1000 SO much I had my custom Schroeder cabs painted orange lol although this OB-1 does intrigue me. I for one like the flexibility of switching between clean & dirty tones with lots of head room which the BT1000 suites just fine. I like the idea of a foot switch to toggle between them although for this kind of money they should at least provide a effects loop (in my opinion a major disadvantage) If they are "fuzzy all the the time" then why provide the footswitch? I had a BT combo but the speakers sounded to retro (not enough high end) and not enough head room for clean tones which is why I traded it back for the BT1000 (For me the flexibility and portabilty of the BT are second to none) I've never had any issues with mine and love the EQ section. If anyone out there in Bass Talk land has an OB1 500, I may be interested in a swap just to see for myself what's up with this amp.

Cheers!

Well, if the Terror Bass 1000 amps are being dropped, then nobody told John McVie. He just signed on with them and got 4 of them. Wow, think that's loud enough? :p I've never even cranked mine, and couldn't imagine running 4 of them (I"m sure there's probably some for back up, though,) but then again I'm not playing in huge arenas. I wouldn't mine that whole rig. :bassist:

Hmmm...four Terrors and two SVT 4 Pros? That's a lot of amp to play light pop ;) Anyway, it's not like you can't still get a Terror head, even if they are disco'd. Some places are sold out, other places aren't. And I'm sure the Orange company could manage to find 4 of them if it's John McVie asking for them ;) They haven't been disco'd that long.
