Origin Audio Cali76 FET compressor (1176 inspired)

Hi guys.

Attack & Release times can be tailored to an individuals needs. I'm very happy to provide stock-1176-times if the buyer so wishes. It's just a case of changing component values!

Fran - how have you found the stock-Cali76 Attack/Release times?

Plenty of range for my needs. I haven't had much time to mess around with the knobs, but the attack can be fast enough to catch and tame strong peaks and slow enough to have a more percussive tone. I still need to experiment a little more with the release knob.

Thanks for posting Bongo. It seems like what I was hearing was right ;)

I used the Cali76 again yesterday and went for a higher ratio (8:1), slower attack and release (both at 9 o'clock) and a slightly higher input level, letting the signal cross the threshold almost all the time (before, I had been using the meters to get a light compression only on the high peaks) and the final result was exactly what I was looking for. At first I didn't notice how punchy my tone was until the drummer stopped playing and I noticed that the punch wasn't coming (only) from the bass locking in with the bass drum. Every note on the bass had "The Weight" (pun intended. sidenote: Levon Helm, RIP. One of the greats is gone).

Thanks! How would you compare it to the Carl Martin compressor limiter? I personally like the rather dark sound of the Carl Martin.
Actually it has been about five years since I've had a Carl Martin Limiter here, so it would be unfair of me to compare them. My main complaint about the CM back then was the treble rolloff, including during bypass--but if you like that tone, then my complaint means nothing. I will update the CM Limiter review someday, hopefully this year.
