I’m currently using an Origin Effects BASSRIG Super Vintage into a QSC CP8 powered speaker. The volume and “amp feel” aspects are amazing with the QSC. I play at home only, so this suits my needs perfectly.
My primary bass is a EBMM Stingray Special 4 string with single pickup and active 18v preamp. I’m not very happy with what I’m getting out of the OE BassRig SV in terms of clean tone. If the EQ section affected the “dry” side of the blend, it’d be perfect. It does not however and I’m disappointed that I cannot seem to get a purely clean tone out of the OE while still being able to utilize the EQ.
This brings me to my question: I’m considering running either a OE DCX Bass or a Darkglass Harmonic Booster as my tone shaping preamp into the QSC powered speaker. I don’t use any other effects and BARELY ever use OD/distortion. Anyone have experience doing this? How does it work out and which do you prefer if you’ve tried both? I’d also like to hear people’s opinion on what they have tried if they’ve only tried one or the other.
