Original Redhead?

I was in a local store today, and the salesman showed me an original (Pre-Fender) SWR Redhead. It was super clean. They wanted $575 for it. That sounded like a good price to me, what do you guys say?

Did it have the front cover for it?It is used to tilt the amp upward if you want.There also was a Super Redhead .The Redheads can handle a 2 ohm load also.Think they are about 400-450 watts but cant remember for sure?I had one of the early ones in the late 80,s or early 90,s.

I don't know if it had the cover. It is 450w and can take an extension cabinet. It is really heavy compared to a Markbass, but it is much cheaper.

$450 to $500 sounds better. $575 is high.

The Super redheads go for 5 to 6 beans on ebay. The regualr Red Heads area alittle bit less.

This is tricky. The original speakers were a big part of the sound and the volume with these amps.

But the original speakers are old unless it was stored in someones closet.

And good luck finding the original speakers. They were PAS and when SWR went Fender i don't know what happened to them.

I think the original Red Head was putting out 250 watts. The Super Redhead had a few more.

Check Ebay for the sold Super RedHeads. See what they trade for.

And remember that Vintage sometimes means worn out. What a bass does to speakers is nothing like what a guitar does.

And research the speakers. Open it up. Or take the side handles off and look.

If it's 450 watts it's one of the newer ones.I think that's high. The Markbass is lighter and may be a couple of bucks more but lighter means a lot today.

I keep a Super Red Head at home. It's too heavy to gig but it sounds great.

I got a pair of the last PAS 10" speakers before SWR sold out. This amp is great. They'll be burying me with it.

But it's too heavy to gig.
