Ouch this hurts!!!

i know crate is sorta big with death metal, i saw a pic of some band (i personally dont like death metal, but whatevs) and the guitarist was behind a big ol wall of crate cabs. which suprised the hell outta me, i mean...its crate!

still...even if it is "metal" why the hell would he toss out a korg tuner? im 22 and cant afford that! ugh teenagers...so glad im a whopping 3 years removed :D

*i need to find me an uncle....*

Did he go to the music store with an adult? If not, then they were dealing with a minor and you can go with him and un-do that deal.
You know, this is a really good point. Yeah, the kid went in and did the deal on his own free will, but I think he got taken advantage of by the salesman. Once he's 18 there's not much you can do, but he IS 16, and I think he kind of got hoodwinked. Definitely a recourse to consider if it starts making you angry.

it happens....

back in 1990 or so i picked a 2x12 "stereo" crate over a 50 watt 1x12 jcm 800..... they were the same price. the marshall seemed kind of big and dumb, while tyhe crate had channel switching, 'verb, and STEREO chorus. like duh! :eyebrow::eek:

of course, i later traded it even for a peavey TNT150.......

Im not mad about the gear. Gear comes and goes on a weekely basis in my house. but what upset me is his poor gear choice. But its ok one day he will realize what he did. Like me when i was 14 i saved and saved to buy this old beat up mesa 2 15 bass cab when i got it a friend had a new fender 410 cab so we swapped. biggest mistake i made to this day. so i hope in a few years he will learn like i did new is not always better.

Go to the store and tell the salseman what a dirtbag he is. He/she deserves to feel lousy for at least a week for taking advantage of a kid.

In the meantime, if young people were smart, they wouldn't be young.

that stinks. can't believe they would have done something like that. See, this is why even if it's really a gift, you tell younger relatives or family friends that they are "borrowing" your equipment, and add that someday you may need it back. That usually is good at preventing them from selling it off to buy cheap new gear.

Let me know what store your amp is at so i can go pick it up, j/k. I've done some stupid things like that (trying to defret my bass with doing no research). I've learned from my mistakes and know make much more mature decision. Your nephew will b pissed in a few years but he'll learn from his mistake and get over it.

1) You did a great thing giving it to him
2) He did a rude thing trading it so quick
3) The store guy took advantage of naivety

Having said that...

I did stupider things when I was young. I knew better. I still did them. I got burnt, I turned around, did them again. It's how I learned.

Oh, and along the way some adults told me some stuff but I forget what it was because well, they were adults and I really wasn't paying all that much attention and my friends were waitin in the car and we probably had a line on a guy that knew a guy that might buy us some beer and ... ;)

Call it a learning experience.
Call it "Stupid Tax."

He'll realize he really screwed up, and then he'll be much more careful and more purposeful with his equipment trading in the future. Kids just don't do what we want them to do. You've just contributed to the kid's education.

Is it me or does today youth take evrything for granted?? mind you im only 25 but I had to work for everything Ive owned music wise and that with having a father who makes his living playing country bass and guitar. But by working for everything i take care of my stuff and treat it with care. So you would think by me giving him semi pro equipment that i never got when i was his age. hed be happy? but no its ugly i want new!!! stupid kids dont know squat!!!!!

stop generalizing. He made a dumb move because he was ignorant as to what he had. I remember meeting a bassist at a gig with an early 70s SVT and he said he wanted to trade it in for a line 6 because it was all beat up.

he was about 16. I was 15 and I had my hartke stack that I saved up for. And then I did research the next time I was looking to buy and I ended up pretty well.

He was probably just suckered into it by a crafty/ ahole music store employee that told him the crate was better.
