Output Jack issue

When I plug in my cable or wireless all the way, I get no signal. When I pull it out just a bit, it engages and then works. I do get a few cracks or breaks in signal while playing but it does work. Is there a fix or am I getting a new input jack??

Is this a barrel jack or open-frame? The 1/4" jack is T/S, correct? Active or passive bass? Just ruling-out the dumb stuff.

Two down: barrel jack and active.

the simplest fix would be to replace the old output jack with a new one. that type of jack (barrel) is known/prone to fail after many uses.

if you can solder without flinching it's a DIY task. have a luthier/tech do it if you want. good luck!

With a barrel jack like that and a used instrument I’d probably just install a new Switchcraft jack. Double check and make sure the wires are going to the right solder tabs. Output (hot) to tip, battery negative to ring and ground to sleeve.

Might also consider using a 90 degree (right angle) cable on the bass side if you are not already less like to “jack up” up those barrel jack outputs. Good luck.

I’m a firm believer in right angle plugs.

Buy two new jacks. Inlines fail regularly, and you'll have one on hand next time it happens. I've been through 3 in 5 years on my upright

When in doubt, change the jack. They cost about $3 and are novice-level soldering.

I highly recommend the Pure Tone barrel jack. In my experience, they’ve lasted way longer than the Switchcraft barrel jack. It’s a much tighter connection in comparison.

+1 on the puretone, switchcraft barrel jacks just fail periodically from my experience

Those barrel output jacks are notorious for malfunctioning after a while.
I can recommend Pure Tone output jack or good old open frame Switchcraft.
