Output Jack question

Sort of. I replaced the output jack in my G&L ASAT last night. It was cutting out when it wiggled. Got a Switchcraft 152B and had no problems installing it. But I still have the problem. What else could it be? It's only cutting out when there is movement in the 1/4" plug. I popped in a new 9V. Got gigs coming up and I hate being that guy with technical issues.

Have you tried a different cord?

Several including a brand spanking new Lava Cable Retro Coil.

Definitely check your cable, many times they just wear out.

Ok next thing would be to make sure that all contact points on the jack are solid and touching firmly onto the cable's end. Try bending the contacts on the input jack to make them grip the 1/4'' plug more firmly.

The 152B is a closed barrel jack. You can't get at the actual contacts which is why I assumed it needed replacing to being with. New one seemed to work fine for about 20 minutes.

IME, those barrel jacks have tiny leaf contacts in them and are often unreliable (even the switchraft ones). you may just have to try installing another one, or at least try a cable that has switchraft ends on it.

That's what I was thinking that maybe a jumbo plug would help the problem. The thing worked fine for the last 3 years though. If I get that kind of life out of the $4 part I'm fine with swapping it out. I've already got too many cables. Anything else that could wiggle that I should check?

a jumbo plug won't help. just a standard switcraft 280 would be the best one to use.

Is there an alternative to the Switchcraft 152B? I really like my Lava cable.

Is it possible that even a brand new jack can use a good cleaning? Maybe even the tips on your cords? Sounds dumb, but may be worth a try. White vinegar, Q-tips and 1 tsp elbow grease could be the answer. And why not clean the input on your amp head (unplugged of course)? How often does anyone do that?
