Ovation acoustic preamp problems-Help!

Bought an Ovation Celebrity CC-174 acoustic bass. OP-24+ preamp. It's a beater but plays well. The problem I have is that the pickup works as long as you don't switch the preamp on. As soon as you switch it on it goes dead. Any suggestions on how to get this out of the guitar body (the preamp)? It doesn't look like it will slide out the hole it is in, I think it will have to come out the soundhole. I don't want to do any more damage to it by screwing something up, but I only payed $50 for it so I don't want to have to take it in if it's something I can fix myself. Thanks in advance for any help! Casey

Yeah Mike. The battery is good. The wires going from the battery to the preamp are carrying the voltage to the preamp, but I can't figure out how to get it apart to do further testing. Anybody have any experience taking one of these preamps out? Thanks, Casey

Just found out the sticker pulls up on the face of the preamp to reveal 4 screws in the corners. With the preamp out of the guitar, I know the pickup works, I know the wiring to the jack works, I know the volume slider works. Problem is, when I switch the preamp on I get no signal. Works when preamp is out of the loop. What do I check next? Thanks, Casey
